I can say from the other side of things, it makes killing your flyrant a priority while simultaneously limiting your kill options to shooting it. That thing can roast infantry which you can then finish off with a charge, and makes charging the flyrant a dangerous prospect (he roasted Typhus, who is a tough guy to kill). Our first game I did not consider the flyrant to be worth much dedicated firepower because I figured I could cost effectively tar pit it. On the second game, with that cannon, that was no longer an option and I was forced to make some tough (and ultimately bad) decisions to deal with it.

Yeah. I also decided to give the flyrant all of our debuff powers, which helped. The thing with the venom cannon is the random d3 shots can go badly 1/3 of the time. So he got a little lucky. I like v cannons though, so I've been thinking giving them to my carnifexes to go tank hunting.

Has the Miasma really been working well for people? I haven't heard too much hubbub about it, but it does seem interesting at least. I'm just a big fan of Kraken's chameleon-tyrant. Basically everything Kraken. PS - Kraken. Yeah, so behemoth has an almost halfway decent relic: scythes of tyran. +1 attack and +1 strength is nice but idk if it's better than just using the free claws. Kraken is so good. They really designed nice rules for the og hive fleet.

Yeah... S7 sounds great, but S6 with re-rolls is still better... I doubt +1A is going to justify the "I paid not-free points for this". Maybe... but maybe.

I mean it also pisses me off that it replaces rerolling 1s with 6s are an extra attack. It should have both.

100% agree Eric - I feel like the relics of other races are Yes And and not Instead Of, while ours are more replacement than improvement. I suspect we may get an FAQ about that, there are a lot of people on FB complaining to the 40k team, and they tend to take that stuff to heart.

Yeah - the only Relic Weapon that's a full-on improvement is the Miasma Cannon. And Claws are just so bleedin' good for a free option, there's a lot to compete with on the melee front. Still fairly in love with the Kraken relic, though. Negs to hit for days!!

Yeah I'm all on the kraken train. Chameleonic skin and the ability to charge after fleeing is HUGE. I was trying to make jormangundr work for army wide cover all the time (well basically), but I keep coming back to kraken, its just too good.

Jormy is amazing for the initial mobility/trickery that heavy DS allows (especially since we have the one transport option that can't add support characters to units... what kind of sense does that even make??)... it just boils down to playstyle. Sure there are some lackluster options, but at least 3-4 that are awesome, based on how you want to play the list.
Heart it.

Yeah Kraken is amazing. However, I've been more than happy playing my swarm by their behemoth color scheme. Rerolling charges, especially out of deepstrike, has been soooo clutch. I also think jormangunder is best as a straight shooting army. It's really tough to make an 8-9" charge, but their trait is excellent for mobile firepower like ds devilgants or dakkafexes. Kronos is sweet, but I think it's pretty inflexible and a crafty opponent can force movement or tie up your artillery.

I suspect we may get an FAQ about that, there are a lot of people on FB complaining to the 40k team, and they tend to take that stuff to heart. Most of our relics have goofy (fluffy) conditionals, like having to kill a model to unlock rerolls or only getting the yamarl bonus in the fight phase. Fun, but lacking in power. I feel the same way about half the warlord traits too. Grasping at straws though Cause the dex is just so deep and balanced

Oh yeah, Kraken, Jormy, & Kronos tend to be the most touted, but I think Behemoth is right up there - you can do some serious damage with an alpha strike build, and it has a great strat to make big swarms of gaunts more deadly (imagine, popping a behemoth charge with 30 gaunts vs something like Berzerkers, doing a bit of regular damage, and then popping caustic blood for the ensuing carnage?).
It's great that there are so many viable options & builds instead of wings & devourers.

Nice idea. I haven't used caustic blood at all yet. I tried the behemoth strat, but it only includes models that make the charge within an inch, so I only got off 2 mortal wounds. My true blue competitive behemoth list is 2 trygons and swarmlord pushing 2 packs of stealers and a devilgant blob. Plus a flyrant dropping in with miasma or something. I then fill in the blanks with fire support or some fexen.

This is a list im gonna try out tonight. I call it "all out behemoth" Essentially sacrificing shooting for all out t1 assault. May bring it to the dojo tourney.
2000 points, all hive fleet behemoth
Battalion Swarmy Flyrant - adrenal gland, miasma cannon, monstrous rending claws Stealers x16 Stealers x13 Devilgaunt x25
Spearhead Neurothrope Trygon - ag Trygon - ag Carnifex - hvc, 2dspitters, enhanced senses, spores
Superheavy aux Scythed hierodule
I'll see how it plays out. It's the first list ever I haven't included my exocrine (and recently, my hive guard). Carnifex is basically there cause I had an open hs slot and only 100 points.
