I love that they clarified that spore mines are set up with the same hive fleet. I saw people on tyranid hive a few weeks ago using kronos biovores but setting up Kraken spore mines. I wanted to slap them.

Also, the rulings for pheromone trail seem like a pretty egregious nerf. Specifically not allowing stealers and then saying that units that go into reserves have to follow their reserve deployment rules. So what's the point of that strategem?

Yeah, that's pretty terrible. It's usable with the other strats that bring in units maybe? Although are those even reserves?
Good thing kraken stealers are super fast... I'll start running a broodlord again.

Technically pheromone trail says reinforcements, so wouldn't that just mean like the strategems for genestealers and endless swarm? Seems really bad.
But in fb they said the team was going to revisit it after all the outcry.

But in fb they said the team was going to revisit it after all the outcry. Actually you are totally right raw, now that I take a 2nd look. Which makes it pretty useless in matched play in the first place, especially since those reinforcement strats suck. I think the community (Maybe through a bit of groupthink) interpreted it as "reserves", which made it quite a bit more practical. You are right though that gw probably did intend the strategem to only apply to reinforcements (But why make so many useless narrative-only strategems in the first place?!?!?)

I think when they sat down to write the stratagems they did so with narrative and open play in mind - just fun fluffy things for armies to do, without much thought about how they interact with some of the specific special rules for matched play like psychic focus and the reinforcement rule. And I guess if you want to spend 3 CP bringing a full brood of 20 genestealers back to life with a lictor in turn 3 there are worse things to spend CP on, basically treat it as taking a second unit of genestealers in your army list and keeping them in reserves.

Looking at things I can dream of having, if I ever dipped into the hole that is Forge World models, how is the Barbed Hierodule? I'm not sure 8th ed Apocalypse rules are out, but it is actually a transportable size (as opposed to the Hierophant) and if I ever wanted to invest in some REALLY big guns, it is high on my list right now.
Opinions?

So, i actually was looking at those bad boys the other day too. Pre-codex, i would have said that the barbed could fill a nice artillery role targeting heavy vehicles/monsters. But now we have a better tfex and heavy venom cannons, which do a better job. 12 s8 shots seem good at first, but the barbie hits on 4s with diminishing b.s. Plus, he loses attacks. Since he doesnt have an invuln, it's pretty easy for a couple lascannons to bring him down to 5+ or even 6+ on turn 1. I actually think the scythed is the better option. First of all, his guns auto-hit, so you don't have to worry about poor b.s. Plus, his melee capabilities are just better than anything else we can get in the codex (maybe outside old one eye). 8 attacks hitting on 3s rerolling ones is averaging over 6 hits at S10, d6 damage, which can just brutalize big things. His melee diminishes horribly, but at least you have the flamers. Unfortunately, neither is as good as an imperial knight. But they are much cheaper and can be buffed by psychic powers and stuff.

Very cool! Would I have to get a copy of the forge world stats book to use it? I am considering an early Xmas gift to myself.

Yup, all of their stats (and all the xenos stuff - orks, tau, necrons, eldar etc) is in the Imperial Armor Xenos Index. Its only like $15 too, and can be bought digitally (that's what I did, so its just on my phone and tablet) for instant gratification.
Also point of fact- they're not just apocalypse models anymore. In 7th and now 8th edition, you can bring these big Lords of War models in normal games to add more character to your games - so bringing a scythed or barbed heirodule to a 2000 point game is extremely doable (hell I've been thinking about making a 2nd dimachaeron kitbash to bring 2 of those mofos in my games!).

You are a Xeno, every Xeno race gets one solid relic.

Has the Miasma really been working well for people? I haven't heard too much hubbub about it, but it does seem interesting at least. I'm just a big fan of Kraken's chameleon-tyrant. Basically everything Kraken.
PS - Kraken.
