We got some fanboi ping pong up in here between Nick P & mike and all I can think about are drukhari color schemes that would jive with my daemonettes. Daniel we're 75% of the way to a doubles fanboi table tennis match if you join in. Though i should note, wyches turn to spaghetti if they're left too close to slaanesh for extended periods of time.

I also feel like agents of vect is the kind of rule you don't see activate all that much even though its having a huge impact on the game. Like CJ can't commit to the turn 1 deep strike assault with his khorne demons against those pesky agents so they'll get deployed via a different means. Yeah that was my thought too - you'll end up just seeing a fundamental change in tournament armies away from having to rely on a single stratagem for that turn 1 bomb charge/shooting phase, since you know your opponent can potentially just ignore it 99% of the time for 4 CP. Should help balance the meta a little bit more hopefully, just by the nature of it existing. Also I realized I can do 2 brigades for like 1500 points and get 21 CP. LETS GO

It'd be fluffy to have a black heart archon and some sslyth overseeing the lesser kabals raids too. The counter stratagem is going to be healthy for the meta in regard to making armies have to diversify out of one punch armies.

It wouldn't actually work against the bloodletter bomb. The putting them in reserve is a pre game expenditure of command points, so the Agents of Vect wouldn't be able to stop it.

I'm really interested to see how the HQ's pan out - I think the Archon in particular has such potential. Great CC Character, completely lackluster weapons. Really awkward mix. Hopeful for at least a relic weapon that gives us a solid AP-3. Shoot, what if the soul trap comes back as a cool piece of kit? Guessing the Obsessions will be per detachment, making the "take 3 patrols" the hard go-to. Although the Poisoned Tongue (or whatever - re-roll 1's in combat and with poison shooting) would be fine for Cult units. I just lack any Coven troops, so the "one of each" thing doesn't gel with me much. Anyway. We'll know soon enough I guess! The problem with the obsessions is that it sounds like they don't all replace the same keyword - so the Poisoned Tongue is a <kabal> keyword, which wyches don't have - so you'd have to take a detachment of kabbalites with the <poisoned tongue> and then a detachment of wyches with <cult of strife> or whatever in order to be battle forged. This would actually make way more sense. Not sure if I just haven't picked up on this, or if it's 'inferred'... I def left work sick today so my brain is pretty mush either way. Ughf. That feel when I almost want wracks now just for a small heamy patrol. What to do, what to do...

That said, it would be great for stopping my ability to attack again with my charging units. Pulling that off at A-con was great. When it worked right my bloodletters killed two squads of death guard and a decent chunk of plaguebearers in one fight phase.

I find my dark eldar stratagem of "having no armor or toughness" will come in handy for nullifying your need to attack a second time.

The Tabletop Tactics youtube channel just put up a battle report featuring the new Cool Eldar.

yiiissss I've been watching. Couple of interesting strats revealed. No confirmation of "more special weapons in warrior squads". One thing of note, I hadn't thought of Venoms actually getting the re-roll's of 1's with Flayed Skull's Obsession... so that's nifty.
Edit - Someone over in Commorragh claiming to have the codex "confirms" that Warriors can now take 2 specials when at 10-strong, and that this replaces Trueborn.
I'm adding a *lot* of salt to this, because no pics of the book as proof, and it's a new poster... but so far what he's saying (points, wargear, traits) seem reasonable. But still.
In any case, that would give some extra worth to Raider Gunboats - 8 Rifles (1 Syb) and 2 Blasters is a pretty mean arsenal.

Okay - after a few more details have started spilling out, I have to get something off my chest.
My first(well... second, I guess) impression of the "all patrols, all the time" mentality/rules - I actually find this more limiting than the standard build rules. *Only* because with the way Obsessions work, we are in and of ourselves a Soup army.
My current understanding of Obsessions is that a detachment gets an Obsession if every unit (barring mercs) shares the same Kabal/Coven/Cult keyword.
As such, I can't just toss in a Succubus and a squad of Wyches into a mostly-Kabalite battalion if I want to keep all of my special rules. So, any given detachment of DE only has 1 HQ and 1 Troops choice. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a really cool mechanic/idea, but I wish it wasn't so heavy-handed. Great as an option, less great as a basically-mandatory thing. I mean, does the idea of a Kabalite Battalion start to seem samey to anyone else? Must take 2 archons. Must take 3 units of warriors. Or a Brigade?
I guess I wish we had mini-HQ's like the Dracon back, so we could have more Lt. style characters to lead the "lesser" detachments, or something. I dunno. It's also 5am and I might have the flu. Not sure yet.

Yeah, the need for large numbers of HQ units due to the new force org charts combined with the limited number of HQ units many factions have is annoying in general this edition. And it seems like the Dark Eldar rules just make it a little bit worse.

It is something that your opponent will always have on the back of their mind, for sure. In your example though, the deep strike happens before the game starts so I don't think you can prevent it. You can stop CJ's 3 CP Khorne fights again strat, though, and that could be huge. EDIT: What CJ already said. There was another page of posts I hadn't read yet...

It's also 5am and I might have the flu. Not sure yet. Yeah, I hope you guys get some Lt style HQ's too. You know, I like that DEldar are getting more options for the way their armies can be built. Depending on what you want, the mass Patrol detachments might not be your thing, but that's fine. There's nothing stopping you from eschewing Troops for the other Detachments after your single Patrol or whatever to maximize Obsession bonuses (3x Ravagers and an Archon of the Obsidian Rose for +1 CP, say). How many different Obsession bonuses do you want? I think if you start there, you'll have an easier time deciding how to organize your detachments. And to be honest, I don't think maxing out your CP is a huge deal. Don't let that stop you from making a fun list for yourself--I find a list often relies on only 1 or 2 stratagems throughout a game, so if you just pretend the re-roll strat doesn't exist you'll have plenty to spend on the guaranteed effect stratagems.
