So the new formations were leaked and this one looks pretty tasty. It's essentially a giant death star (or Starkiller base I guess) for my man guilliman. It fits my army pretty well so I'll probably use it (although sicarius is mediocre).
Sicarius
1x honor guard
4x sternguard/vanguard
All units get +1 BS and WS
Units within 3" of guilliman can take look out sir attempts
This is a huge buff for sternguard, letting them hit on rerolling 2s (from doctrines/gman's warlord trait). It also is a solid combat buff, potentially increasing the damage or survivability of the vanguard and honor guard.
Obviously, the look outs for guilliman (even on a 4+) will boost his survival a good amount, as 2+ can be taken by honor guard and 3++ by shielded vanguard.
The obvious downsides are cost (like over 650 points with no upgrades) and the fact that guilliman isn't fucking included in it. They try to negate that last one by creating a new detachment, basically a gladius-lite with better doctrines but no free transports and non-vehicle obsec.
I tried making a 1500 point list but it just doesn't work, since the vitrix guard really don't have good anti teq or tank.
I'm on my phone so too lazy to post a full list, but heres what my 1850 looks like based on the models I actually own:
Victrix guard:
Sicarius
Honor guard x 5-6 with half swords half axes.
Vanguard x 5 jp with a couple claws/swords
Vanguard x 5 jp with 3 stormshields and a hammer/2pfists
Sternguard x 5 in a pod with 5 combi meltas
Sternguard x 5 in a rhino
CAD
Level 2 libby/ Tiggy
Tac squad grav infiltrating from sicarius
Tac squad melta in a rhino
Tac squad plasma in a rhino
Devastator squad with lascannon
Maybe a sicaran or trilas pred for more anti tank
Guilliman
Basically, the storm shield vanguard and honor guard accompany guilliman up the fucking center of the board. Everything else plays fairly standard gunline except for my suicide melta sternguard and the infiltrating grav squad, who will essentially pick a unit to cleanse.
Libby will probably stick with the honor guard and take some Librarius goofy shit (hopefully rerolling saving throws).
Not sure what to do with sicarius.
So that's pretty much my first thoughts on the new formations, but it does mean my whole army is essentially rerolling all game.
I guess I could also take the demi company instead of the cad and make this the detachment. I feel like there are far more doctrines than I could actually use in a game though.
