I'm getting a sneak peek at the rules this coming weekend. I won't leak anything based on the arrangement I have with my source. But I will give my nay or yay.

My understanding is that the box set will contain the watered down rules for how to use the 47 models inside the box and play a basic game. But I would hope there is a larger rule set coming to add more depth/scenario options. The good news is: 96 pages of background? NICE. And apparently (from a GW store email) the full rules for the game, as well as "dataslates" for using ALL current WHFB models in the new game system, are going to be available to download AS OF THIS WEEKEND, JULY 4TH. So give or take 4 days, we'll have a crystal clear picture of how this game works, and whether or not we should play it VS continuing to play 8th edition. That being said, since the FAQs are all being removed from GW's site this week it looks like, I'd do yourselves a solid and download them so we have them in case we do want to keep the 8th train rolling.

i'm cautiously optimistic about this. it's awesome all the rules will be free of charge, for sure. what i'm worried about is how much they'll rely on random charts and crap (i.e. the eye of the gods table, or the weird winds of chaos table in the demon codex).

Well we'll know for sure this weekend when we download the rules for free. If its the same 4 page rules we get in AoS, then its likely to just be little else besides basic move, shoot, magic, combat rules; a to hit/to wound chart; and brief summary of special rules.
If its a larger set of rules than the 4 pager included in AoS, then we'll see - could be more room for randomness after all.

Awwww shit. Round bases are in, just got my self a new Age of Sigmar Khorne Daemon army. Soon as the rules are out I'd be down to try it.

Four pages of rules is light. Kind of exciting even though I like a bit of "grit" to my game play. I bet they are keeping it streamlined and things like chariots will have their specific rules in their "war scroll" and not in the core rules.
We'll see. But I'm with Russell... "Cautiously Optimistic" is a good description of how I feel too.

Some stuff coming off twitter in the last couple hours: - Typical game size is around 100 minis per side, last about 2 hour
- BUT can be played with as few as 10 minis per side
- Magic is simplified - cast a spell with 2D6 - it goes off unless opponent rolls higher on 2D6 to dispell. Possible +/- system based on magic level of user.
- 5 phases - Hero Phase (includes Magic and Command abilities), Movement Phase, Shooting Phase, Charge/Combat Phase, Battleshock Phase
- Sparse terrain - one terrain feature per 2'x2' section (so 6 per standard table)
- Units can run just like in 40k, but forgo charging and shooting
- Battleshock is similar to instability - winner and loser in combat roll D6+Casualties, compare it to your highest Bravery stat in the unit; remove additional models equal to Total - Bravery stat.
Starting to feel like 40k without guns, but we'll see; the minis are still excellent, and for me it will all come down to the magic, movement, and charging system. If it still takes more strategy, and a keen mind to think a turn or two ahead, then I'm all in. If it's basically 40k without guns, then I'm still in but less excited about it.

I'm excited for a skirmish level game, since necromunda and mordheim stopped being supported. 10 models and two hours sounds great!
