I know a bunch of you played DA's when I worked at NDG but 6th/7th hasn't been kind to them. Though it doesn't scream "new" excitement to me like Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus, as a 20 year DA player I'm still pumped. The demi company mirrors my actual army (which is Green Wing at it's core) and I have the models for every one of the attached formations other than the Ravenwing Silence Squadron (I only own a single Nephilim). Still, if the rules that go along with it are cool this will be great because it captures how I've long visualized the DA's and my army. I'm way into it. So did anyone keep their DA stuff?

Definitely interested in seeing what happens. I've been trying to get rid of my DA for years, so I guess we're gonna see if I keep doing that.

I have a lot. We'll see if I want to hang onto any after this release, yeah?

I hate to say it, one of the things I like about the DA's being a red-headed stepchild is that our core fanbase is fervently loyal, and the rest turn away from the Lion... Much like the chapter itself.

I admit, I'm a Dark Angels super fan. They were my first love in 40K. I've been running back and forth between Faeit212, BoLS, B&C, and Warseer all week trying to catch up to the minute rumors and revelations. There are a few things I am noticing: 1) There is less "activity" than other releases. We knew it was going to be a really basic realignment with 7th Ed according to the rumors, but every site I got to there are 2 or 3 people posting with a couple others chiming in occasionally. And in the case of Faeit212 and B&C, it's mainly Mauler and Thomas Gardinier just going back and forth with each other. This saddens me. 2) The comments I do see are rife with pessimism. I've been a DA player for 20 years and we always go one step forward and two steps back. Still, this is our first time in a decade coming out just after the new marine book instead of before. This is exciting. Yet the handful of people who "care" are panning it before it's even come out. 3) I'm also saddened by how competitive play has skewed people's collections. People are upset about the new demi-company. "I only own my 2 minimum Tactical Squads and none of this other crap." "I'm going to need to field an Assault Squad and a Devastator Squad? Fuck that." It's a Space Marine army. These are the core of how the DA's go to battle. I swear it absolutely guts me when I read stuff like that.

Yeah, pessimism is stupid. I'm excited to see what you guys get, if nothing else the new formation(s) and the new Detachment should add a TON of awesome flavor to the army list!

The competitive scene is killing a lot of the heart of this game, but man... it's really rough rolling fluffy. Just on Wednesday, I was playing Will, and I don't want to be all salty or anything, but I was running swarms against MEQ and well... it was really detracting from my fun.
90 (yes, 90) Hormagaunt attacks against his Beserkers resulted in 2 wounds. Twice. I know it's a dice game, but I really don't want to play that kind of narrative anymore. I don't need to win every game by any means, but if I'm throwing 90 dice against the most common statline in the game, I better be doing more than 2 wounds. I don't like thinking at any point in my game "Well, that was stupid." I mean, shit, it's not like Berserkers are the meta or anything.
Anyway, sorry to tangent. I'm pumped to see what DA can do. However, if it's just the addition of grav weapons and points reductions on their flyers, well... I got a shitload of magnetized Terminators for sale.

I've got this covered! But yeah, I've been thinking a lot about how the landscape of gaming has changed. The game has always been unbalanced but the spirit in which people played the game was different. I feel like when GW 1) stepped away from the tournament scene and 2) they stopped having stores packed with hobby driven guru/zealot staff the hobby lost it's guiding light. There were always over powered lists and combos, but if something was overpowered it was frowned upon, not seized upon - unless you wanted to draw the shameful glances of your peers. Now the shame and embarrassment comes from building to theme and composition. I feel hopeful toward the new formations. People call it a "tax" to have to use certain units, but I like the idea of people being rewarded for using units that are accurate to the setting. "Hey. Play with whatever you want, but if you stick to your guns on fluff here's a sweet ass reward." I like the idea of that. We'll see.

Nice! I like these a lot. Grim Resolve ain't bad at all. Interromancy is hit or miss, but that was to be expected. Aversion is great. Witchfires are just meh in general, especially for 3 WC. Stasis Bomb is kind of a dud, but the Formation does make it fun as hell. I like the fluff that goes with that; they just freeze in time and are picked up later.
Alright, kinda getting excited.
