I agree with nick. It probably works best as part of a larger transport strategy with night scythes so your opponent can't predict where your units will come from. 2 scythes rushing forward with a monolith in your backfield will give you some nice board control and flexibility.

Agreed. Floatslogging the monolith by itself unfortunately won't get you much better results then just starting the units you want to teleport on the field. A solid anti-charge line is all well and good, but aside from being a nice distraction carnifex, it needs a unit to combo with.

I mean the monolith still puts out a ton of damage and is still super hard to kill - its basically a landraider, which are seeing a decent amount of play right now just as a gunship let alone a transport. So I think the monolith falls squarely into that bucket - take it for the cool factor and for the tough as nails gunship it represents, use the transport ability as a secondary bonus that you may or may not use. I think the transport option works best when you also have a night scythe or two as well, so you have options as far as where units pop out. We're lucky in that we don't have to say "hey this unit is in this night scythe, or that night scythe, or that monolith" - we just have units nebulously on a tomb world, and they can pop out anywhere, so it really creates a target priority issue for your opponent. I have seen this in a lot of lists, and it is tempting (primarily just because I own both models already, as is the case with the Deceiver trick) in its flexibility. It also allows me to play very differently from my Death Guard, who otherwise share a somewhat similar play style with necrons. I am going to give it a try over at Games Plus, and hopefully at the DD as soon as I can get back to home base. What are people's thoughts then on the Obelisk? It's a troop killer with the Tesla, averaging 20 S7 hits, and if you are willing to burn the CP's, can absolutely ruin a flier/hover army. In the few games that I have seen it taken, it is almost comically obnoxious, but it's usefulness comes down to whether or not basically wiping a troop squad per turn nets you enough points to pay for it's value. Eating 20 Orcs every turn is fun, but after 4 turns you have just earned back it's cost in points killed. Also, just a side note, I love Deathmarks. Defensively, I feel like a gangster. What a beautiful squad of deep striking terminators...it would be a shame if they caught fire upon landing.... Offensively, I can put a squad of disturbingly difficult to kill snipers on an objective across the board and have them be an effective offensive force and a constant threat to characters

I think the vault is better than the obelisk cause of the crazy powerful ctan. Right?

Yup. normal weapon wise the obelisk and tesseract vault both have the tesla sphere of destruction, but the obelisk is more specialized against flyers and S7 weapons by having the the gravity pulse and T8, respectively. The tesseract vault may be T7, but it's improved c'tan powers are effective against everything, and can put out a lot more damage than the obelisk as well.
That said, the obelisk is 70 points cheaper than the vault, so if you're just looking for 20 S7 shots(!) with tesla (!!) to lay waste to your enemies from a T8 platform, The obelisk will do you just fine!

Or a pylon from forgeworld - those things are D I R T Y D U D E You have no idea how long I have been trying to convert a Pylon, but it is devilishly hard to find the right parts

Assume that it needs a spider and a cryorek on it to keep it alive and you are looking at 500+ points. For my points I'd rather take a Pylon or that new forget world monstrosity. Honestly if I weren't holding off buying anything new at this point (I am conservatively assuming the new Ork release will cost me about a grand) that big spider bastard would already be on my shelf....because I clearly have impulse control issues when something looks cool.
