that's a lot of wounds for 440. I just wish the 'dule models followed the "chasis" of the heirophant/tervigon/etc... I personally vastly prefer that look to the more bulky 'dule frame

Yeah I wish we had any d6 damage shots at all in the army, but even so 12 s8 d3 damage shots comes out to an average of like 10 wounds on anything t5-t7 which isn't bad and vs t4 or less infantry it's like 12-14 wounds so it's not bad.
My problem is that 9 hive guard are the same cost more or less and have 18 s8 shots that don't need line of sight, but fewer wounds and lower toughness to be sure and much lower prowess in combat.

I think the ability to shoot, charge, leave combat and do it again is pretty valuable.

Alright so i finally got another game in, against Jesse's sisters. It gave me some good insight vs imperials. Jesse had like 6 transports. Nid infantry are usually good against infantry, while the monsters can crush vehicles. With everyone packed into rhinos/immolators, my gaunt shooting was useless. Even when my fexes wrecked them, the sisters could exit and get first shots with their flamers/meltas.
So i think ive found a great use for hordes of stealers/hormagaunts: surrounding transports. When the transport dies, the occupants wont be able to exit more than 1" away from the horde and will die too. Even if they dont destroy the transport, they can trap the occupants from exiting, thus rendering them useless. I dont have any hormas, but ive used termas and stealers for this to great affect. So i think ill have to pick up more stealers.

More and more it feels like big blobs of genestealers are the winner in our index - they can do a lot of heavy lifting, transport block like you describe, and mince infantry and light vehicles alike. Other than that, I think 6-9 hive guard are going to be really popular. That much S8 shooting that doesn't need line of sight is killer.
I'm curious to see what we get with our codex, rumor has it coming out in November with Blood Angels, which would be super rad. Fingers crossed.

Malanthrope being a cheap-esque synapse HQ is pretty huge - perfect babysitting for static units like hive guard, exocrines, & biovores. Tervigon can do a great job of it, I'd think, along with keeping a hefty chump-blocker in the way, but that's a fair bit more in terms of investment...

Im testing out my malanthrope tomorrow. I may end up keeping him midfield cause i only have one artillery piece (exocrine), so it may be more effective protecting the carnifexes and stealers.

Im also leaving my swarmlord at home in more casual games. Going with a rotating crew of OOE, Broodlord, DS/RC Flyrant, and now, the malanthrope. Ooe is a goddamn beast, probably worth his points even without buffing other fexes. He averages 10 S7 Ap-3 D3 talon hits in CC. Thats best in the whole codex.

I just wish OOE had a more appropriate "character esque" model other than just using the standard carnifex kit, but yeah he seems very worth while this edition!

Yeah. Its still a decent opportunity for a conversion. But im just using a magnetized fex to rep him for now.

I think I want to make one with the claws from the tervigon kit or even the exocrine kit, just to make him stand out that much more.

Im using the haruspex claws as stone crusher claws currently. Theyre huge.

One Eye doesn't have his own kit? That seems like an odd oversight

One Eye doesn't have his own kit? That seems like an odd oversight He has a head option in the carnifex kit. Literally a carnifex missing an eye.
