Daaamn son. I realize that Tyranids need some range, but everytime I put a Nid together there is a part of me that says "ALL THE SCYTHING TALONS!". I think I caved for my Fex and made it all melee. With the bonuses to charge it isn't such a bad idea. Think I might buy another Carnifex Brood and then Zoanthropes next. If I can give one suggestion, it would be to double up on any monsters. Because if you like it, it will probably be dead after turn 1. My example is my exocrine. The dude is a beast, but he is almost always my opponents' #1 target (unless I bring swarmlord). So a 2nd carnifex will definitely be a good pickup. On the other hand, the collector part of me never wants to buy two of the same thing. So I own 1 flyrant, 1 swarmy, 1 exocrine etc. Edit: you could also run that zoan solo as a neurothrope and instead grab some ranged firepower like a tfex or more stealers.

Funny enough, with all the points cost reductions, I'm struggling to own enough models for a 2000 point list without taking swarmlord. (And if I take swarmy, my broodlord is semi-irrelevant.) Looks like im picking up more models.

Also, just noticed something I hope is a typo. Scythes of Tyran dont reroll 1st to hit. So even though 6s to hit give extra attacks, that bonus is negated by the loss of rerolling 1s... Also, they only replace monstrous s talons, so Trygon Prime cant take them. Too bad.

I'm not impressed with any of the melee Relics for Nids, which is wompy. For a Tyrant I'm all aboard the "just stick with MRC's and a gun" train. Really with Kraken the Dakka Flyrant is probably the best option, as you can just leave combat, shoot things, and jump into some chaff to be protected vs enemy shooting. Rinse and repeat.
Loading up with Devs essentially gives you 10 wounds on any T4-5 target, 14-ish vs T3. Only 5 or so vs Vehicular-esque targets, but still, that's something.
Still, I want my Tyrants to eat things in combat...

Not optimal but a flyrant with mrc and lashwhip bonesword with adrenals and ymgarl factor seems fun, especially with behemoth or kraken to keep him in combat consistently

Noob question: how do you pick out relic weapon's for units and what is an RMC? do you just say "this regular weapon is actually a relic weapon of the matching type"?
I also am going to be buying a lot of models so I feel your pain Eric formerly mantis. 2000point dreams

I think they were talking about monstrous rending claws. Which are free. And excellent. I basically say that my flyrant wings have rending claws on them.

MRC = monstrous rending claws, and for relics there is a list of relics that your warlord can take in the codex, some of which are weapons that replace things like a lashwhip/bonesword on a tyrant or a heavy venom cannon etc, some of which are just passive bonuses like a boost to synapse range or a random buff in combat, etc. Every faction has a list of specific relic items their leaders can take. You get 1 for free per battleforged army, and can pay 1 CP to take additional ones.

Guys I am struggling to make lists - everything looks fun, everything seems decent to good, and I am loving it. What used to be a pretty straight forward list building process (all the flyrants + gaunt web to screen + exocrines and malanthrope for anti-tank) is really fluid now. This is the best!
I've already got 4 themed lists - one that focuses on tunneling units and takes Jormungandr, one that focuses on flying units and takes Behemoth, one that focuses on artillery units and takes Kronos, and one that takes Kraken and is just a mixed bag force. All of them seem like a blast, I cannot wait to get some games in with them. Might have to pick a day in December and just spend all day with my entire collection (including the heirophant!) getting 4 or 5 games in haha

Did someone say another Nid vs Whatever Apocalypse?
I'd answer the questions posed by KingWalnut, but they've been covered. With the caveat that Relics can go to any character (although I think not named characters), not just your Warlord (in fact if you buy more with CP, they have to be different relics, and on a different model). To reiterate, a Relic weapon will replace the normal version of that weapon... so if I wanted to take the Miasma Cannon (which replaces a Heavy Venom Cannon), I buy a heavy venom cannon for my <character> that can take one normally, and then use the "relic point" to upgrade it to the Miasma Cannon.
Unfortunately I can't get behind the Lashwhip on a Tyrant - if it just let you strike first, that would be one thing, but on a degrading monster, attacking back at the lowest profile just isn't impressive. If it's imperative we have a CP ability that can do it for you, and I'd rather have a weapon that's better at killing things (Dual swords for the bonus attack, for example). But really, why pay for anything other than the Claws? They have really similar damage output, and of course save you points. I wish this choice was harder for me.

Doubleback and I played lastnight but we ran super late and called it after turn 2. So these thoughts are literally based on my first turn /beta strike.
1. New IB range really gives a lot more movement flexibility. I was able to spread out my artillery, giving the exocrine and venom cannon carnifex great line of sight while keeping the hive guard hidden away. 2. Smite spam is real for us. My Neuro took out some terminators that teleported nearby, while my flyrant got a couple plague marines. 3. While positioning didnt allow me to pull off 2nd round of shooting for my devilgaunts, 3 hive guard shooting twice was damn effective. This was my 2nd game using them and it was a significant improvement. 4. As much as people want delivery systems for genestealers, i was able to pull off T1 charges for stealers, broodlord, and a walking tyrant, all starting in my deployment zone. Granted, doubleback moved up a couple inches during his turn but a behemoth walkrant with adrenal glands can make pull off a T1 charge from 24" away with a little bit of luck. 5. It may be early, but tyrants are back. They can withstand tons of pressure and the flyrant deepstrike is great. 6. Lastly, our strategems are EXPENSIVE. I started with 7 points and was down to 1 by the start of my 2nd turn

I do like a lot of the stratagems we have, I think I pulled like 5 out of the deck (yeah I bought the cards because I hate flipping pages) that will be my go tos - pheremone trail, a couple of the "pick a unit shoot twice/pick a unit attack twice in combat" stuff, the one that lets you cast a second psychic power if you successfully cast the first one, etc.
But overall yeah there are some expensive ones out there, but we can also pretty cheaply fill out a brigade for like 900 points just to get more CP to burn, with a battalion to carry the heavy hitters.

Yeah those are all excellent strategems but they each cost 2 or 3 points. I used pathogenic slime and single minded annihilation immediately and I was down to 3 points left. (And with slime, it's really not worth 2 points unless used at the optimal time (ie. Dakkafex shooting into 10 primaris out in the open).
I personally struggle to run the brigade cause I dont have lots of cheap slot-fillers. (Currently id have to use a haruspex in the elite slot)

Ah yeah that makes it tough. I think the cheapest brigade becomes 6x ripper swarms, 3x lictors, 3x mucolid spores, 3 neurothropes, and 3 biovores, comes to only just over 700 points. And it's not half bad stuff either - it's all stuff a lot of players will use anyways (maybe not the mucolids...).
Throw in a supreme command of neurothropes and a vanguard with hive guard and malanthrope, and this is actually decently competitive.
