Hey guys,
Again, sorry I couldn't make it last week. I was super bummed to get sick at the last minute. Anyway, I'm planning on joining this week at the Dojo if folks are going to be playing. So, in advance of playing for the first time, I was thinking about my list building and curious what I needed to prepare. What point levels do people generally bring and/or do you have multiple lists ready to go based on whom you end up playing against? I was thinking about having the following ready:
- 400pt list (Combat Patrol rules per Adepticon's rules) - 1000pt list - 1500pt list - 1850pt list
Does that sound like what I should cover? Anything else I'm missing? Also, how do folks feel about fliers / super heavies? Should I have the above lists with variants with and without fliers/super heavies?
Anyway, wanted to start working on my lists since I assume folks dont list build at the dojo.
Appreciate the advice!

Some people play combat patrol, some people play 1500-1850, some like to team up for 1000 each and play 2v2 2000 point games, so having any of the above ready to go will be a great idea! As far as what people tend to play re: fliers/super heavies, the rules are there for using them, so Lords of War are welcome. Fliers are of course welcome, every army has them (barring sisters) and they're not exactly OP. That's like asking if people care that you bring transports Games tend to be more fun/fluff based vs super competitive on Wednesday nights, so as long as you're not coming in with a tournament list (unless you specify that you're bringing one and set up a test game, etc) to stomp people, you'll be in for a fun night and getting a game should be easy enough.

Flyers, superheavies, lords of war, unbound, as far as I'm concerned anything goes! I'd build a 750 army too, for the 2v1's and 2v2's we sometimes play.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I thought I had read somewhere (not on this site) that it was good manners to check with an opponent before hand before playing with both fliers and super heavies (e.g. Imperial Knights). So, I thought that I would throw that out there, just to make sure I wasn't a jerk the first time I showed up to play at the dojo.
And that's awesome that folks tend to play more fun / fluff based as that's what I am into as well. Anyway, main thing was to make sure that if I brought my imperial knight, whether folks would be giving me the side eye or not!
Awesome. Will start working on those point levels so I'll be good to go for whatever. Thanks again!

I think the fliers/super heavies thing is a hold-over from 6th edition. When both of those unit types were introduced into 40k there was a lot of push back from the community and armies had unbalanced access to them. Now that every army in 7th edition has access to fliers and AA there is no reason they shouldn't be included. Likewise, the addition of str D weaponry and "super formations" makes super heavies relatively mundane these days. Gargants are a little different though, as spamming those can be over the top.

You'll get used to it soon, but really, just don't be a dick. If I'm going in looking for a pickup game, I'm not going to bring my Harridan, but if I want to try my Harridan out, I'll ask if anyone's up for a game like that. I think everyone's cool with Imp Knights and generally one Wraithknight won't garner too much salt. But no Tau allowed ever, thanks.
