Haven't seen a lot of chatter about everyone's favorite space pirates for a bit, so figured I'd stir up the pot a bit.
I've been looking at "rumors" over on 4chan the past couple of days, kind of as a general "What would I do if I were to run my dude-mans as Corsairs?".
Not gonna lie, they make my DE weep in a lot of ways. Power From Pain is a great rule, fo sho', but Corsairs have some pretty smexy stuff of their own.
The Force Org is kind of wonky, but also pretty cool - and if all else fails, you can basically run it as a slightly modified basic CAD. 2000 may be a touch hard to fit into a single coterie, but probably up to 1500 would be easy enough with very minor limitations, and you could do 1750 I bet without hating yourself. The fluff behind it, though, is really cool, as well as modelling opportunities, and the special rules are pretty nice also.
The Prince, though... oof is my Archon jealous. The Void Sabre isn't ridiculous, but is a pretty solid weapon without breaking the bank... and then a budget Shadowfield is always cool.
Kind of wishing they could take Raiders, but at least Venoms are a fun way to get around - and venoms with Shuricannons? Even better. A touch more expensive, but on the whole the "basic troop" squad is about the same points. Depending on what "path" the Prince takes you get some potentially really cool abilities.
Awesome fluff, awesome conversion possibilities, can zip around with Venoms/Falcons, or try an air-drop Jet-pack list, or mix and match, or... or... or...
Kind of excited for this book to drop so I can maybe play around with it a little bit, just to see how things play.

>4chan
/tg/ a shit. :^)
But I have scans of all the Corsair stuff from the new IA book if anyone is interested. I am extremely tempted by them but not enough to justify the FW prices etc. They look to be a lot of fun. I really want that anti-air vehicle, considering Eldar now really have very little in terms of AA in comparison to other races (excluding the Crimson Hunter because sometimes you don't want flyers) because EML's are so expensive and you're often putting them on extremely fragile units. The Firestorm (I think that's the name) has a Str 6 Heavy 6 Twin-linked, skyfire, interceptor main gun and it has some other rule too (laser web) that improves it further. For like 150 points. It fills a badly needed hole IMO
I love how the Vibro Jetbikes look but they (rightfully) nerfed the Vibro rule for them so taking them will be very hit or miss. They only get the Vibro rule if they roll a 6 to hit.
There are a couple terrifying new D toys/weapons but I'm fairly sure they are all on Super-Heavy's or 500+ point tanks which I'm not usually interested in taking. Pretty sure there is a Hellstorm template D shot and an Apoc Blast D Shot (when they combine like a Fire Prism / Night Spinner type rule)
Unfortunately, Shadow Spectres didn't get much except a small points decrease.
Strage Fluff point - the baron or prince is Str 4 base which may be a first? WARP ROIDS ELDAR
If it weren't for the barrier of entry and my budget I would probably do it. Of course there's a chance I succumb anyway, after all it is the eldar thing to do

I just feel like, as a primarily Dark Eldar player, Corsairs as allies just make the most sense. Eldar Craftworld allies are fun, and fluffy to a degree, but Corsairs would be out there in the webway with my Kabal day in/day out, with their super cool jump-pack wraithknights and their shiny new weapons.
I think I might pick the book up, if for no other reason than to have the option of playing them, and because the FW books are just absolutely works of art. I sorely regret selling off my Tamurkhan Chaos Dwarf book to Matt, it was such a gorgeous tome.

The beauty of eldar in general is that the base statline is pretty identical, and Corsairs are just using weapons borrowed from the other books anyway... so really those 5 Kabalites with 2 blasters? It's 5 corsairs with 2 blasters. And the blasters are cheaper, because Pirates (although a blast pistol is more expensive? And haywire grenades for characters... woof).
Mind you, if I were to use the Jet Packs of course I'd put some actual work into conversions, but with the slew of eldar-y bits and the way their tech works (tends to be very subtle, sleek and supple rather than bulky tau/imperial style) it would be moderately easy to find a way to put them together.
Honestly not sure if a bunch of Jet Packs is the way to go, though. On a couple of units, especially in a coterie with the DS specialty, they'd be great (although buying DS for venoms is pretty dirt cheap), but on the whole I think venoms are still going to be a popular option. Have to buy an Inv if you want one, though... but really not sure if I care that much.
Ughf, I really like that FOC, it's just cool to have a bunch of different "bands" working under the Prince. It's really awkward for small games, though, as the points requirement for all those HQ's will start to add up. Shrug. C'est la vie.

I've really considered it, but I want to hold off. With GW's revival of factions like Harlies and Ad Mech along with rumors of Deathwatch on the horizon I feel like now more then ever they might actually do an exodites book. Itd be a few years out likely, but itd be so sweet.
