Dark Star has come and gone, Jeff has driven a lot of miles and spent a lot of money, and now I have 8 new Dark Star dice. Hooray for this guy.
But really, it was a ton of fun, I fucked up a lot, but everyone I played was a fantastic sport and gave me really good games. Days Inns are fucking gross.
RESULTS - I placed 16th, should have had Best Nids, but the dude who grabbed it just had a token force as primary alongside his Daemon allies. Bastard.
Game 1 vs. Chase Garbner's Daemonkin
So, Dark Star gives awards 1st place to Best Overall, but Chase here grabbed Best General, winning all his games and grabbing the most Battle Points. He was a super cool dude while also being very competitive, and he ended up tabling me except for Flyrants, because he only had 4 guns, 3 of which were grenades. He ran a 20 dogs with 2 Juggerlords spread across the entirety of the board to multicharge everything he could. Alongside that, he grabbed a GUO, Dthirster, 2 Nurglings, and a bunch of Bloodletter squads, but that was it. Basically, it was just the dogs though. He boosted their invuln, gave them FNP, and often IWND to grab those rare wounds back I pecked off. Basically unkillable, so I didn't.
Game 2 vs. Blood Angels
2 Stormravens, Landraider, Tac Terminators, 15 Marines, Drop Pod, 2 Razorbacks, Dante, Libby, Priest, and Sanguinary Guard. I was salivating. Then I fucked everything.
I had the game in hand, but forgot to land my Flyrants Turn 5. That's it. Lost by 1 point that way. Fuck me, right?
1 Mawloc blast killed his entire Sanguinary Squad including Dante and the Libby. That was exciting.
Game 3 vs. Grey Knights
Another fantastic opponent. He had 16 models; Draigo, Libby, Grand Master, Termies, 2 Dreadknights, and an Imp Knight. I killed 5. Took the victory pretty handily though, as he just couldn't target enough stuff every turn. I let him cast everything but Gate, so his murder squad just sat on their hands the whole time. Spore Mines to move block the Imp Knight were awesome.
Game 4 vs. Space Wolves & Grey Knights
Oh what a heartbreaking game here. Dude was great, but I fucked up big. I pinned his Dreadknights twice with the Horror at super critical points. Then this random dude came up out of nowhere and got really fucking excited about how I couldn't do that. I knew MCs weren't naturally Fearless, but there's a little line in their unit type description that says that can't ever Go to Ground, voluntarily or otherwise. No matter how much I play this motherfucking game...
Anyway, excited game-ruiner got really happy I fucked up so bad and I felt incredibly guilty so we agreed to call the game a draw. Otherwise, I tabled him but for a single Dreadknight. Fuck me, right?
Game 5 vs. Nids
Same dude I played my last game at Adepticon against. His heart sank as I walked up because he knew what was coming. I think I'm his nemesis.
I tabled him at Adepticon and tabled him here. Was the fastest game of the weekend.
Altogether, it was a really cool tournament, their raffle raised over $1000 for Can Do Canines, so I'm super into that. The crazy missions were really refreshing and opened up a lot of different thinking. I got a lot better with Lictorshame and know beyond any doubt that I could have gone 4-1 if I hadn't fucked up so much and so badly. I really hate beating myself. I'll definitely want to go again next year. Venue was awesome too, great terrain and a great location. TOs were on top of everything and super friendly. Who's coming with me for Renegade in December?
