I mentioned an event called the Beef and Wing Brawl in Buffalo, NY (my old home town) and I'm strongly considering going.
It's a highlander tournament. Here are the essentials:
60 PLAYERS 1250 POINTS 4X4 TABLES 4 ROUNDS
- The 2nd Annual Brawl is adopting the competitive Highlander format.
- All armies must be battle forged.
- All codex choices are 0-1, including dedicated transports.
If you take one of EVERY troop choice in your book you may take a duplicate. Example: Space Marines - Player chooses 1 Scout and 1 Tactical Squad. Then, they take another Tactical Squad. To get a 3rd Tactical Squad they must take a 2nd Scout Squad.
Special characters are considered thier vanilla codex counterpart for the purposes of duplicates. Example: Pedro Cantor is a Chapter Master.
- You may only have 1 special character. It must be from your Primary Detachment.
- All Battle Brothers are, instead, considered Allies of Convienience.
- 2+ armor, invulnerable and cover saves are not really re-rollable. The second roll is reduced to a 4+ - So it would be 2+ and 4+ respectively.
- Armies may only have two sources (includes, codices, Imperial Armor, Stronghold, etc).
- No Lord of War over 250 points, gargantuan creatures, or armor 15 structures.
- Imperial knights are a 0-1 choice and only one may be used per force.
- Escalation is illegal. Apocalypse is illegal.
With these considerations I have my Dark Angels, Astra Militarum, and Orks to play with (also a Culexus Assassin).
With the little bit that I follow the competitive meta, none of these forces get mentioned - maybe Asta Militarum allies on occasion. If you were trying to build a competitive highlander list, which one of these forces do you think would have the best chance, and what units are the "draw" that would lead you to that decision?
Just curious because frankly my list building is atrocious. Thanks in advance.
