Kyle v Nick: Tie 16 v. 15
Quick words of wisdom gained: ~Highmagic > Loremaster ~Ancient steg charging the flank of a chaos warrior block is a bad idea. ~Need to develop a strategy for handling the "unkillable" demon prince

Lessons I learned in my tie with Kyle:
1) Holding terrain is a thing, and I should do it more 2) The demon prince is filthy, even if he reduces himself to a level 1 on turn 1 3) The Chimeara needs to be in against chaff or war machines EARLY or it dies to just about anything 4) Mounted models do need to dismount to assault a building...making skullcrushers insanely terrible at it 5) named characters are too expensive for their usefulness...190 for Festus < 190 for a lvl 2 nurgle sorcerer with dispell scroll

Jeff vs. Jack
Was it 18-9 or 16-8? Dark Elf Victroy. Please confirm Mr. Marin.
Things I learned: WITCH ELFS YEEEAAAAHHHHHHH Executioners > Other units with GWs Shades are there to be great potential for regret, but without enemy war machines, it's a little weird. WTF am I doing with my magic? No idea. HALP PLZ.
Kyle vs. Jeff 21-7 Lizzies
Things I learned: Slann magic? More like... Get Slammed magic. That was terrible. Had little going for me here. Still don't know what to do with my magic, especially when I get 12 dice and Lizzies still dispel... everything? Shooting is great even when it's not. WITCH ELFS YEEEAAAHHHH, except when I walk into Salamander flame traps. Tricksy hobbitses. I have to learn patience and not just flop my dick onto the table and hope for the best. I also have little idea how to play characters.

So the general consensus was that it does retain the rules of an independent character? Do the rest of the crew also fight in the challenge?

Jeff vs. Kyle Round 3 -> Fortune favors the bold.
7 - 21
Lessons learned: Holy crap! flank charging the witches is still a BAD idea. ONE witch killed 3 temple guard on their flank charge! Best tactic is to lower their LD more and redirect the whole game.

Kyle: Yeah, they are crew for the mount the hero takes. The reason they have those rules is in the situation where the DH is killed (like in a challenge); CoB remains.

So, it is a character and a mount. Crap so can issue and accept challenges?
Game vs CJ.
17 v 10. Almost rage quit. Still bewildered by the point spread at the end.
Lessons learned:
#1 Points denial.... #2 I need to develop a plan for taking on Elves in combat #3 I need to not be a baby about bad match ups and crap rolls #4 repeat 3 until I learn a lesson

#3 I need to not be a baby about bad match ups and crap rolls #4 repeat 3 until I learn a lesson Dude, I empathize with you on this one. I'm the same way; when things don't go well my personality sours. Amy (MY GIRLFRIEND) once told me that it sounded like I didn't enjoy playing Warhammer. That was kind of a wake up call to me because I could only imagine how my opponents felt when I was throwing a temper tantrum. So, I've tried my hardest to not be such a poor sport since she and I had that conversation. While I haven't been completely remedied, I feel I've made progress. While I don't know what your mindset is when you approach our beloved four by six, I will give you some insight as to how I have been working to improve my attitude in-game. All I've done is approach each game expecting to lose. Or, barring my total ruination, I expect my game to be hard-fought. This mindset is very, very difficult for me to maintain as I win games; if I play someone and I've previously won three in a row then I clearly expect the trend to continue. This will most definitely lead to me being upset when the game goes south. I find that this is what has helped me to improve my attitude when I lose games. Like I said, this is not a perfect solution for me. But I have to remember that, if I continue to be a poor sport when things go badly, then I may find myself lacking willing opponents.

It's also good to remember that, more often than not, games go bad due to luck. I've found that for every dumb mistake I make, my opponent usually makes one similarly damaging; it's just that the dice decide to make his capitalization more devastating. I know that might not be much help, but I find the injustice in bad luck pretty humorous and I love not having to take sole responsibility for my loss (as all good white American males know how to do). That's not to say I've never had a totally shit game that I just couldn't enjoy; I remember one against Will's Rubric Marines where all my Tyranid firepower only ticked two hull points off a Rhino in a desperate attempt to get First Blood, I subsequently lost in classic Daemon Prince fashion, or as I like to call it, getting thoroughly DP'd. I also remember that game that you and I played Kyle, where my Nid firepower was enough to have you concede after 2 turns. However, I've never found a game I didn't learn something from, and when everything turns super dark, I try to turn solely into that: What can I learn? As a result, I'll probably never concede a game. That's right, future tablers of Jeff, fuck you, we're going to turn 7.
Combined with Russell's philosophy, try going into every game with "What can I learn from this inevitably terrible loss?" especially with these Adepticon-prep games. You're likely to see all manner of different lists, and getting plowed is an inevitable part of figuring out how to approach your match-ups. Lowering expectations might not seem glamorous, but you'll usually end up pleasantly surprised. It's what I do before I go to bed every night: "Well, I doubt I'll wake up. Thanks life, it was mostly unbearable." And then I usually wake up and start all this shit all over again. At least there's minis. And porn. And Russell's original brand of mini-porn that for some reason costs $59.99 a month.

Something that I saw once was that high level poker players don't focus on the outcome of the game. What they do is try to make the best choice they can under the circumstances, and if someone pulls out the 1/20 chance to win they still made the right call. So when you make the choice to charge a unit in the flank that you should obliterate and the other guy rolls nothing but sixes and you hit all ones, you made the right call and as much as it blows you should do the same thing every time. I guess the whole point is to view the game as outcome irrelevant.
In terms of our game, I think I got lucky with your flank crumbling as a result of the panic test, but the real issue is that if your t3 single model is hanging out alone within six inches of skinks, maybe you should be prepared for him to get shot or ranged to death and somebody nearby running away. I know I made some dumb calls, and even though they weren't devastating, charging my dark riders into your saurus warriors flank is never a good call, and I should never do so again, because that cost me a draw against you and probably 11 times out of 12 it will do so again.
