With regards to this End Times business. I have a hard time believing that WFB is moving to a new edition. There is a lot of talk about the next books. To me it does not seem to have a number of releases only to completely revamp the rules upon which those releases are dependent. Particularly when the game sits on such a finely balanced edge. In terms of Gameplay, unless you are playing one of the three remaining soft cover book armies it is still a highly balanced game. Thoughts?

These (three) new books are the bedding for the new edition. With the potential for another six afterwards. You see if I'm wrong.

Matt that's like saying "why do they keep releasing codexes, if the next edition could invalidate some of the rules upon which the codex is based". The rules are always going to change, but usually not so drastically that the previous books (including the End Times) can't still be utilized there-in.
Just look at 7th in 40k - they changed the psychic phase pretty substantially, but it didn't invalidate anybody's codex...just made shadow in the warp useless. The only thing that can realistically change the way End Times works in the new edition is if they stopped using the % system. Everything else would still fall neatly into place given a new ruleset.

I just find a campaign supplement, even a series of them, a rather elaborate way to launch into a new edition. Not that I think it will invalidate the existing books. Nagash was, in a word, a huge move on the story. But outside of the new percentage distribution system it did not really touch dramatically change choices you can take n your armies. Some army books are filled with historical characters alongside current special characters. I love the scope of it and the idea of having alternate army choices, but it still feels like Storm of Chaos on steroids.
Maybe I'm just a little too attached to the rules as written now, but it feels a lot different than things like stronghold assault and escalation do. They changed the core of the game in a way that almost demanded they be added into the core rules.
Nagash feels somewhat different, almost like sliding back to 6th edition WFB and Herohammer. That, above all, is what makes me feel, that it might be something else entirely.

PS more rumors abound about the next End Times book - End Times: Archeaon: - 4-6 week release time frame (leading right up until Hobbit for christmas, basically all of Nov + 2 weeks of October)
- New archaeon big model, riding some type of awesome monstrous mount
- New heralds for each of the 4 gods, rumored to be revisited old school characters - Arbaal (khorne), Dechala (slaanesh), Van Horstmann (tzeentch), and Valnir (nurgle).
- Also rumored to include daemon characters - the much rumored plastic greater daemon kits...but I think this is a longshot
My guess is a new archaeon, a herald for each god, and then a plastic Chosen of Chaos kit to replace the old metal/finecast sculpts.
