Werd, sirs...
So, I've been toying around with (ie; doing nothing for the past week but) learning Python (or at least the basics of programming utilizing Python), and as I have at least a basic grasp under my belt I'm looking around for projects to test my newfound mojo.
As such, I figure something like an army builder program is a pretty solid start... it would utilize a lot of what I've learned (and quite probably some that I haven't yet), while incorporating something I know/care enough about to be a fun project.
That said, this would be a Tyranid-specific army builder. A) because those are the only rules I have full access to (well, that's a lie, but...) and B) because there are enough Niddlies here who could test-run early versions and let me know how things are progressing. This does, however, bring me to my next point...
Focusing on one army would let this project have a *real* focus. It could be user-friendly for that race in particular (not that most generic builders aren't), or just have cosmetic funsies that add that little somethin' somethin'.
So that brings me to the actual question/purpose of this post. What sort of functionality would you like to see in an army builder program? It can be something that's proper "functional", or something that's just "nifty". Consider basic points-counting the baseline functionality of said program.
To bring it into a "Nid specific" realm, I'd love to have changeable artwork linked to unit selections... give a gaunt a different gun? A new picture pops up to go along with your selection. Doesn't really add any utility to the program, but who doesn't like pictures of bugs? You get the idea.
So yeah, anyone can chime in on what they think would be, in general, good to have, but specifically how to really cater to a race and make it stand out would be cool.
