So I've been playing with the idea of a new CSM warband, and this was one of my favorites. General tactics is a mid field rhino rush, accompanied by a landraider/chaos lord/sorcerer death-star. Any thoughts and suggestions on it?
Things you Might need to know to comment: Sorcerer rolls once on Slaanesh powers, and twice on telepathy (also gets slaanesh primaris for free) Daemonheart - Gives wearer 2+ armor and it will not die Mark of Slaanesh - +1 initiative Icon of Excess - Gives unit feel no pain
+ HQ +
* Eleaxus the Flawless - Chaos Lord (175pts) Daemonheart, Mark of Slaanesh, Sigil of corruption * Power Armour Lightning Claws, Power Fist
* Sorcerer (155pts) 2x Additional Mastery Level, Aura of dark glory, Mark of Slaanesh, Spell familiar * Power Armour Bolt Pistol, Force Weapon
+ Troops +
* Noise Marines (Troops) (239pts) Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster (47pts), 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster * Chaos Rhino Combi-bolter, Searchlight, Smoke launchers * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
* Noise Marines (Troops) (239pts) Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster (47pts), 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster * Chaos Rhino Combi-bolter, Searchlight, Smoke launchers
* Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
* Noise Marines (Troops) (239pts) Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster (47pts), 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster * Chaos Rhino Combi-bolter, Searchlight, Smoke launchers * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
* Noise Marines (Troops) (213pts) 7x Extra CCW, Icon of Excess, 7x Noise Marine w/ Bolter * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
+ Heavy Support +
* Chaos Land Raider (240pts) Dirge caster, Dozer Blade

~1500 points on this list right? It looks like its strengths are in its mobility, redundancy and it'll definitely shred MEQ/ lighter infantry. I do wonder what you would do against similarly heavy mech armies/flyers. Playing sisters, you're plenty good at closing in on longer ranged armies, so maybe that's not too big of an issue. I'd be tempted to ditch one of the HQ's (I guess that has to be the sorcerer) and the lightning claws on the smaller units to fit in a couple of maulerfiends. I think the assault unit could be flipped for a pimped out biker squad with a couple of meltaguns to address AT as well.
It also bothers me that you can't put 12 dudes in a chaos landraider as it makes it hard to preserve the slaaneshi number 6. I guess 2 raiders with 9 dudes each works well enough, but maybe only in higher point games.
+ HQ +
Chaos Lord (155pts) - Bike, Mark of Slaanesh, Sigil of corruption, 2x Lightning Claws
+ Troops +
* Noise Marines (Troops) (182pts) 5x Extra CCW, 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster, Noise Champion, Doom Siren, Chaos Rhino
* Noise Marines (Troops) (182pts)
5x Extra CCW, 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster, Noise Champion, Doom Siren, Chaos Rhino
* Noise Marines (Troops) (204pts) Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster, 4x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster, Chaos Rhino, Noise Champion, Doom Siren
+ Fast Attack + (489pts)
* Chaos Bikers (162pts) 5x Chaos Biker, Champ, LC, Mark of Slaanesh, 2x Meltagun * Chaos Bikers (162pts) 5x Chaos Biker, Champ, LC, Mark of Slaanesh, 2x Meltagun * Chaos Spawn x5 (165pts)
+ Heavy Support * Maulerfiend (125pts) * Maulerfiend (125pts)

This was another list idea I had earlier, not so different from the one you suggested ironically Mike
+ HQ +
* Eleaxus the Flawless - Chaos Lord (185pts) Bike, Blade of the Relentless, Daemonheart, Mark of Slaanesh, Sigil of corruption * Power Armour Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon
+ Troops +
* Noise Marines (Troops)(240pts) 2x Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster, 7x Noise Marine w/ Bolter * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, CCW
* Noise Marines (Troops)(240pts) 2x Noise Marine w/ Blastmaster, 7x Noise Marine w/ Bolter * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, CCW
* Noise Marines (Troops) (197pts) 5x Extra CCW, 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster * Chaos Rhino Combi-bolter, Searchlight, Smoke launchers * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
* Noise Marines (Troops) (197pts) 5x Extra CCW, 5x Noise Marine w/ Sonic Blaster * Chaos Rhino Combi-bolter, Searchlight, Smoke launchers * Noise Champion Bolt Pistol, Doom Siren, Lightning Claw
+ Fast Attack + (190pts)
* Chaos Bikers 4x Chaos Biker, Icon of Excess, Mark of Slaanesh, 2x Meltagun * Chaos Biker Champion Bolt Pistol, Lightning Claw
+ Heavy Support +
* Maulerfiend Magma cutters
* Maulerfiend Magma cutters
Also, in case anyone is not familiar with the Crimson Slaughter rules the Relentless Blade, it functions as a power sword that gets stronger with each kill the bearer makes in CC. It gets the following bonuses: 1+ kill - +1 str; 3+ kills - AP 2; 5+ kills +1 str; 10+ kills - instant death. Between the Lord's initiative of 6 and 5 attacks on the charge he can easily charge the blade up.

This is another assault list I thought up, one based around dedication to Khorne. I'd likely run them as Savage Sword renegades. The force is designed to be VERY aggressive, rushing the opponent in full force. With so many dangerous assault units, hopefully a few can make it too their targets and over run them. The Apostle travels with the 20 CSMs giving them hatred and the much needed fearless, while the lord rides with the spawn to get into CC asap. The Helcult makes the cultists fearless as long as the helbrute lives, and upgrades it to fearless and hatred if the helbrute dies.
+ HQ +
*Chaos Lord (215pts) Daemonheart, Gift of mutation, Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne, Sigil of corruption, Powerfist, Lightning Claw
*Dark Apostle (115pts) Bolt Pistol, Mark of Khorne, Power Maul, Sigil of Corruption
+ Troops +
*Chaos Space Marines (345pts) 19x Chaos Space Marine with CCW, Icon of wrath, Mark of Khorne
*Aspiring Champion Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Power Weapon
*Possessed (160pts) 4x Possessed, Icon of wrath, Mark of Khorne
*Possessed Champion
+ Fast Attack +
*Chaos Bikers (155pts) 4x Chaos Biker, Mark of Khorne, 2x Meltagun
*Chaos Biker Champion Bolt Pistol, Power Weapon
*Chaos Spawn (90pts) 3x Chaos Spawn
+ Heavy Support +
*Maulerfiend (125pts) Magma cutters
*Maulerfiend (125pts) Magma cutters
*Maulerfiend (125pts) Magma cutters
+ Helcult Formation +
*Helbrute (105pts) Reaper autocannon, Power fist
*Chaos Cultists (145pts) 30x Squad models, Champion's upgrade, 3x Flamer
*Chaos Cultists (145pts) 30x Squad models, Champion's upgrade, 3x Flamer
The apostle goes with the 20 csm and the lord goes with the spawn.

The apostle goes with the 20 csm and the lord goes with the spawn. Yessir. Love Apostle+ 20 CSMs, a Death Star in its own right to either camp OS or root just about anything out. The 3 mauler fiends will draw a hell of a lot of fire, admittedly never used possessed but another set of bikes would allow for you to really put an armor saturated army into panic mode. With 5 very legitimate threats rushing at them the cultists and CSM ought to be able to pretty much operate with impunity for digging in or marching up. The first list would be nasty- I'd include icons wherever possible and maybe ditch the LR since you're kind of screwed vs. space fairies without some stuff that causes Fear, maybe wedge in a herald and some daemons? Lotta mobile firepower, lotta durability and a solid assault threat with each squad bringin tha noise. Been debating adding some slanny bikers myself for some i5 t5 FNP goodness though I think they'd really work best as a hammer unit of 10 to spread the cost of the icon more economically.

[Y]ou're kind of screwed vs. space fairies without some stuff that causes Fear. In either list, although I'll admit I'm leaning towards the Khorne one now because that would be fun to model/paint I think, I'm using the Crimson Slaughter supplement. The crimson slaughter actually has any army wide rule that gives everyone fear, even cultists. Additionally possessed are troops for Crimson Slaughter, and its changes what the things they can roll at the start of the turn to; 1-2 Shrouded; 3-4 Unit becomes beasts; 5-6 3++ invuln and rending. All around possessed are just great for CS, they are fast and super scoring.

I love that you're using the crimson slaughter dex - you're like the king of taking what the internet hates and making it completely viable and a ton of fun. You go girl.

The internet has too much hate for CSM. They are not bad at all. Just not the juggernaut they used to be. As an aside I love the Slaughter supplement. It's quite excellent.

It's always going to be measured against its counterpart in the Loyalist book and its ingrained chapter tactics, so the lack of Legion rules is bound to upset folks from the get go. That and the fact that our troops blow unless you take a Marked Lord. Or add a Dark Apostle and run 20 of them as Will is wont to do. It's not the worst book, but it's definitely in the lower rung unless you play specific builds which is incongruous with the varied tapestry that is supposed to be the Chaos Legions.

In so far as "tournament play" is concerned sure. But the latest edition of the rules more than ever supports the concept the game being designed around narrative more than anything else. As for it being a mirror of the Loyalist books I wouldn't rule out further supplements in that regard, or a well built unbound list. 40K is, on the whole, becoming a much more complicated game in terms of army rules and variations. It is a lot more difficult to manage than fantasy especially with allies and supplements being what they are. If the argument to be made is that CSM has to pay for it's diversity more than the Space Marine codex then yes I'd absolutely agree.
