Hey guys!
First of all, I am back from my wedding/honeymoon! Woo!!!
Second, I may be coming into a bunch of Chaos Spawn on the cheap and wanted to ask a question that I cannot really divine the answer to. Chaos Spawn stat line says they have an Attack characteristic of d6. Does this mean each model rolls for its number of attacks (i.e. if I have 4 models in the unit, the unit gets 4d6 attacks)? Or do I roll 1d6 for the whole unit and that is how many attacks each model gets (i.e. I have 4 models in the unit, I roll 1d6 and get a 3. Each model now has 3 attacks, resulting in 12 attacks total)?

Is there a clarification in the FAQ or still ambiguous? And congrats on the marriage!

Thanks!
I just looked in the CSM and Big FAQ errata and there is nothing in there about it.

My thought is it would depend on the number of models. If you were using 15 spawn, rolling 15d6 to determine the number of attacks would be time consuming and silly, so rolling one for the unit would make playing it more reasonable. With four models, I think it makes more sense to roll 4d6 and have at it. Especially if it is a multiple combat and you want them to hit different targets.

Thanks for the thoughts! I will probably just ask whoever my opponent is what they prefer and use that. If an official ruling comes down, then I will do that.

Do the Orc units, like Lootas or whatever, specify when you roll for the whole unit? For the Arco-flagellants, I always roll per model/attack, but it is different when attacks become D3 attacks versus the profile line just having D6 attacks.

I know with ork lootas, the weapon details specify rolling one die and using that for the whole squad. That leads me to believe unless it specifies such, use dice for each model (obliterators I know work this way.) but obviously if you're running a horde of spawn that's somewhat inconvenient.

You would roll a d6 for each model's attacks - there is nothing in the rules that determines a unit with a random value for one of their profile traits has to roll a single die and multiply it; in fact, since Ork Lootas have a rule that *specifically* says to do that, the conclusion is that the default is to *not* do that. If that makes sense.
So if you have 5 spawn in a unit, you roll 5d6. That's better for both players anyway - you get a more average roll that way. Instead of a 16% chance to have 5 attacks or a 16% chance to have 30, you have a .0001% chance of either result. Its a lot less swingy that way.

Great answers everyone! I will stick to rolling per model for now unless something else comes up

Since there only at most 5 spawn per unit, I'm okay rolling separate d6s
