Seriously, who let me out of my cave?
Tervigons have swept preeetty hard high to low between editions, and in this one they seem to be in a particularly awkward spot - Probably overcosted for what they do, but "free reinforcement" is a really hard thing to balance in this edition because 99% of it is just gone. Potentially 60 free gaunts in a game is not a small thing (chaos cultists got their Strat cut to 1 per game because of the power of this type of ability, afterall).
So I say scrap it.
Turn the brood progenator (or whatever the spawn rule is called these days) into a DS-ish ability. During setup, you may declare a single brood of gaunts are set up within the Tervigon's spawning chamber. At the end of any movement phase, you may set up the brood so that it is fully within 6" of the Tervigon, and more than 1" away from enemy models. (Not affected by DS limitations of T1, etc)
No, 1" is not a typo - the Tervigon is slow and this functions more like a transport than DS - but it lets you protect a brood of Devilgaunts from a T1 barrage. And fun times, it would finally "work with devilgaunts" like everyone has wanted since the thing came out. Also, drop the Backlash rule, since they're not free anymore it's not necessary.
Add in a Strategem that lets you replenish 10 gaunts within 12" of a Tervigon to a gaunt unit (whatever armament/upgrades the unit initially had, but not able to "improve" the unit with new/unpaid upgrades).
Maybe remove the "1 brood of gaunts" restriction, because burping out 2-3 units of Gaunts (if you take that many) would be pretty cool... given that it's a targetable model, it's dangerous to put too many inside anyway if you can only disgorge one per turn (any non deployed when the Terv dies would be toast).
Anyway, enough of that. mas thoughts?
