Greetings! In this thread I'm going to catalogue my adventure and burden of painting and collecting 3 companies of Ultramarines. The rules for this build are the following. 1) Full Codex strength of 100+ Marines per company 2) Auxiliaries like scouts don't count 3) do my best to follow the themes for the companies below. Company Structure1st Company Veterans - Horus Heresy Themed 2nd Company - Normal "Pre Primaris Marines" 5th Edition Structure 3rd Company - Primaris Company This is my painting and collecting guide to see what I'm planning on getting and painting up for these three companies. SpaceMarinesPaintingGuide.xlsx (12.77 KB) As it stands I have around 9,000 points in Space Marines and I am taking a break from collecting until 75% of my current collection is painted. Finally what is determined to be painted is randomly generated so that I don't save units for last becasue they psych me out.

Is this only for 30k or do you have plans to use it in 40k?

These look good Tyler - keep it up man!
I need to stop being a perfectionist with my painting - look how freaking great these look with a drybrush and some detail work!

Haha painting always struggles to keep up with the collecting for me. The tartaros look great. Very smooth white (and fitting for the 1st company). I love those 30k models.

Is this only for 30k or do you have plans to use it in 40k? These are for 40K, I'm just using the models to fit the theme I choose for the first company, maybe if I do the planning just right, I could have this as an army that can switch from one game to the other.

Yeah, I tried the smooth edge highlighting technique when I got back into the game in November but realized quickly that I'd rather have a squad done in a week or so then say a month or so. Plus the work is so tedious that I'd abandon projects.

That's awesome dude, I'm at the point now where half my armies are done really fine detailed, lots of line highlighting, OSL etc...and the other half is unpainted. So its like, Ok, would I rather just have them done and go ahead and take the shortcuts to get them looking game-ready and overall still pretty good? Or would I rather have the army all look cohesive and trudge through painting them painstakingly like the rest? I'm leaning towards quick lol

That's why my hq's and big suits are the only ones that get to look pretty every one else gets to look good from a few feet away.

Some of the worst models to not only paint but to build due to those damned flight stands. But here's some Primaris Space Marine Inceptors...thank the emperor that I only need one more squad of these... imgur.com/a/WdT4b

Jeez, i could feel your pain just by looking that my unbuilt flight stands. Just a terrible design choice by gw.

I see a lot of people online complaining about them, but I really didn't have that tough of a time with them. That being said they do seem fragile, so I wonder how long into a game they can go without snapping lol
