Mostly just looks like death company got nerfed and you still don't have access to lots of regular codex goodies. So not trash all around, but not good compared to regular marines. At least that's what reddit has led me to believe, and you know that they're always right.

Also, gotta think that chaos space marines are in most need of a full codex since they don't have any unique legion rules currently.

There is some power creep in AoS, but they were good about releasing battle packs as a stop gap for armies that haven't had a full battletome yet to at least get relics, magic powers, arcane items, etc etc. So even without a full update every army has unique character and flavor. The power creep that we see in AoS isn't NEARLY as bad as what we see in 40k, so even if there is *some* I have high hopes.

Also, I just noticed that in Matched Play, each power may only be used once per turn (not just once per psyker). Considering that there are only 3 powers per faction currently, this rule really doesn't work for psychic-heavy armies. Personally, I am more than willing to let my opponents use powers more than once. House rule!

The one caveat is smite- you can cast smite once per psyker I believe. So my Nids will get their powers off and just start smiting shit left and right

Yeah I know it's smite but psykers still can't cast that more than once. So there would be no reason to bring both magnus and ahriman, for example, because you would run out of powers to use. I feel like gw is trying too hard to prevent cheese/spam that they are taking away a valuable component of the game. I can take more than one chaplain to buff combat all across my army. I can take multiple Venomthrope squads to make my infantry harder to hit across the board. However, taking multiple librarians has massive diminishing added value, as they run out of powers fast. I thought one of the main issues with 7th ed psychic was that it doesn't scale properly. All psychic dice got used by only one or two guys who rolled the vest powers. The new rules for the psychic phase and the limited powers actually seem pretty fun and balanced and scale properly, since each psyker gets to cast a limited amount of powers per turn. Except that this tiny rule in the matched play section destroyed that system. It doesn't scale at all.

On the note of psykers, how does Shadows seem? +1 will have an effect but I guess I was hoping for a touch more oomph to it, especially with the reduced range. *But* synapse as a whole is hugely improved, so I'll definitely take the package as a win.

Nothing wrong with playing narrative games with points instead of power level- best of both worlds I say

Something of note for Psychic heavy armies is that Force Weapons rock. Armies like Grey Knights and Thousand Sons will actually excel in the Fight Phase because all of their weapons will be ignoring a lot of armor and dealing D3 wounds. So yeah, it'll be a shift from the Psychic Gunline of 7th, and more to a mixed type army. Those psyker heavy forces are going to pummel you in every phase, whether its inferno bolter fire, mortal wounds from smite, or force swords to the face.

So, is anyone interested in playing a game sometime and trying out the ruleset considering we have most of it now? I managed to put together a full 2k list of GSC using the leaks and would be down to play if people are interested.

I guess? I'd still like to play some last games of seventh (I will very much miss my rending templates). And I can only just barely reach 2,000 points with my Sisters, with a list I'm not super excited about. I'm more excited about playing a 500 point game where that one act of faith per turn is going to be awesome compared to the one act of faith per turn in 2,000 points.

I have a couple 2000 point lists for nids, necrons, and dark eldar kicking around already - but not sure when I'll have time to play, likely not until the actual edition drops frankly.
