I'm curious to what your thoughts are on the new gameplay that has been released of Dawn of War 3 closed beta multiplayer. Obviously none of us have played it (...or is it) but there are now tons of videos on YouTube of closed beta multiplayer.
As someone who loved DoW1 and liked DoW2, I had (and still kind of have) high hopes for this game.
Pro's: Strikes a balance between base-building, large armies, micro-managing engagements, securing resources/ground (which are kind of the same thing), and the whole elite hero thing pretty well
Con's: I'm personally not a huge fan of the whole elite/hero thing to begin with, but in this game it looks like they are even more overpowering than in any games past. Other than that, I'm not a fan of MOBA style games like DOTA2 or LoL, so I don't love the MOBA aspects, but I think the way they held it back and fused it into a MOBA/RTS is unique. Right now, there are so few units for the 3 factions. I assume they plan tons of DLC support, including units, but watching it right now, it's feeling very small.
I don't personally mind how it looks. 40k has always been over the top aesthetically, I don't think it's overly bright or weird like some are saying.
Anyone else watch the videos?

I watched a couple of the videos and I agree. I don't like the whole "Hero/Elites" system. I know in DOW 2 ( i just ended up using Hero/elites) if I had the option because they were already too good to pass up. It's rather unfortunate to see it do the same thing, but now a little worse. However its a beta, and your heroes should be on the BADASS levels compared to the grunt units. It's more a wishful thinking, that they will curve the power levels down on the heroes. For the diversity of units, it was kinda the same in DOW 1, so I'm not too surprised they went back to the franchise's origin game and make EVERY FRICKING GAME A DLC!!! Undoubtedly its going to be a business move to say "Hey want more stuff?! Buy more DLC'S!" HOWEVER ALL THOSE GAMES WERE DAMN GOOD! So I'm kinda all for the DLC's be optional later, so in hopes to improve the game as time goes by. Both for fixes and replay value.
Still I am excited for the game, lack of units and overpowered heroes aside. I'm more intrigued with the story behind it. I got a feeling Alpha legion will be back at it again...with the red vans! (sunglasses)

100% agree Madison - it feels very much like they wanted to build a game for the LoL/HOtS/MOBA crowd to create a super MLG-able experience, but I don't think that's going to resonate with tabletop fans or fans of DOW and DOWII as much.
I do like the aesthetic, and in campaign mode I think the elites make sense as your heroes/lords of war etc, and I'm super excited to get to play with a wraithknight in an RTS. But yeah, the multiplayer seems like a big push this time around, which is definitely NOT a feature I care about. I usually get these games to play for an hour off/on when I have free time to play the campaign and follow a narrative - not to go head to head in fast paced competitive MOBA style combat.
I just hope the campaign system isn't overlooked for the sake of multiplayer functionality. If the campaign is decent and they plan additional units/races for DLC, I'll be a happy camper.

Agree - I'm going to buy regardless for the campaign. I have a really good feeling the campaigns are going to be fantastic
