In addition to the razorbacks I finished this weekend, I kicked off my new Army project. I've officially joined Team Tau, and this is what I'll be painting exclusively going forward. Idea is to paint all the Tau now and stay out in front of it before I have unmanageable mountains of grey plastic (read: Ultramarines). Anyway, finished my first test model and I think it came out well: Since my Ultramarines are based on city ruins/rubble, the idea is to do something more natural with these guys. So, will probably put these on swamp bases. But that will be a while down the road.

I like the earthy tones!
Swampy bases sound fun. You going to try anything crazy, like water effects or anything?

I envision a muddy/lighter tone/ sandy soil base with some water effects. I have a few ideas in the planning stages, but it was suggested to me to try mod podge for the water effect. So, I'll start there. Main thing is I want to avoid using resin as that seems work intensive and... intimidating. Anyway, plan to do that along with random foliage and grass effects. Want to try and hit lighter tones of greens/tans so the base isn't too matchy matchy with the dark green/dark brown model. But, it will be a while before I tackle the bases. I want to get through the 1200/1400 pts worth of Tau that I have first. Goal is to have a fully painted army as soon as possible

Looks great! Love the smoothness and realism that they guys have.
Swamp bases! Water effects! The people demand resin water effects.

Asyrean I've got a bottle of Woodland Scenics Water Effects that I'm never going to use, you want it? Its an all-in-one, no mixing required. Just pour it on in thin layers 1-2mm at a time, and you're golden. Dries clear, so whatever you paint underneath it will be the "color" of the finished effect, and it works great for things like underwater rocks and plants etc.
You can also mix it with some paint to get a muddy/cloudy look, and even use mod podge over the top of it once it dries to add details like waves, rapids, etc. Really versatile stuff.

Hey Nick, Yah, that'd be great! I've seen that stuff used in some How To videos online and looks like it turned out pretty well. So, sure, I'll give that a go! You going to be floating around Adepticon on Saturday? If so, maybe I can track you down and grab it then? If you dont want to mess with it, we can figure out another time. Just let me know!

Yup I'll be there! I'll be sure to bring it with. Not playing in any events on Saturday, just hanging out and looking at stuff/shopping/drinking.
