Hey guys,
Kind of going off the recent 30k conversations, but more specifically, Forge World in general, I was curious about the Imperial Armo(u)r books. Honestly, I don't really know anything about these. When looking at the Forge World models, like tanks or vehicles, I see them referenced as the place to get the rules and whatnot for 40k. But, I'm uncertain about how many of these books are needed. Are they broken up by army? Do you need to get them all?
If anyone can lend some insight, I'd really appreciate it!

Each book is a campaign supplement, more or less - so each has its own theme, and focus on specific races. My tyranids, for example, have all their FW rules in the Anphelion Project book, which details an inquisitor investigating a secret lab that has been doing genetic testing on tyranid genomes, accompanied by the Red Scorpions and some IG. Not only is it chalk full of awesome artwork, and the rules for the various armies in the story, but also the entire narrative for that story and campaign rules/ideas for how to re-enact those battles.
There are books for Eldar Corsairs, Traitor Guard, Chaos Marines, various Chapters of space marines (Red Scorpions, Minotaurs, the Tyrants Legion), Tau, Necrons, etc. There is an entire book, Vehicles of the Adeptus Astartes, that showcases almost all of the FW imperial vehicles and their rules, and how to include them in your games.
The books are beautiful, more like pieces of art than a rulebook. And if you need help determining which book has your rules in it, based on the model(s) you want to use, we can help you out (or google it). There might be a case where you need different books for the different rules, but it might all be in the single tome depending on the models you want to use.

IA 11: Doom of Mymeara has all of the Eldar Corsair Rules; but more importantly for you, it also has all of the Craftworld Eldar Forgeworld Units. People get confused because they are both in the same book (and have several units that overlap into both factions) but it indeed has two separate Eldar Faction rules in it. The Wraithseer, for example, is a Craftworld Eldar Unit that is in IA:11 that is not available to Corsairs, as are the Skathach Wraithknight Variant and the Shadow Spectre Aspect Warriors.
Hornets, Wasps, Lynx and Warp Hunters are examples of units that are available to both Corsairs and CWE - each one of those units has two separate entries in IA:11 for the two factions, which is very confusing for people.
Then of course, there are Corsair only units such as Reavers, Cloud Dancers, Ghostwalkers, Barons, Void Dreamers and Prince's. These will be of less consequence to you in your initial CWE army
It also has several Imperial units and rules including Space Wolves and Imperial Guard, although I'd say the Lion's Share of the book is Eldar.
