This Highlander is 'Modified' because there is an exception to the rule: Any Unit that is both a 'Troops' choice and is entirely Unit Type: Infantry is exempt from the Highlander Restriction There are a few more clarifications that I try to hit on the nose in the link, such as Transports and Vehicle/MC Squadrons, but this is the jist of it. Correct, it's on Sunday this month. Warmachine has Saturday the 10th reserved.
I told Dice Dojo we'd fight them but they declined. Maybe next time.

Are we also meant to be running a CAD, or could I do, for example, the Corsair's special detachment so long as it follows the Highlander 0-1 rules?
I also take it the Infantry free-for-all is type: Infantry with no modifiers? Ie, my Corsairs that take jet packs, and so get upgraded to Jetpack Infantry, would be a 0-1, while Corsairs "on foot" are good to go all day long?

So, no coteries/formations. Anything that is troops and infantry counts, that includes jet pack and jump infantry.

And how do we feel about dedicated transports? 0-1 venoms, for example? Or can I take 1 venom as a FA and then another as a dedicated, or what? Basically can I play Dark Eldar or do I have to bring my Necrons or space marines lol
Which, also, are FW allowed? Can I bring my 30k army using 40k rules?

How does dedicated transport factor into the 0-1 restriction? Is the vehicle considered an upgrade of the unit or a separate choice? Best example I can think of would be rhinos for tactical squads.

Hey guys, regarding the dedicated transports, they are spelled out in the event page where you buy the tickets. I would type it out again but i'm on my phone.
Can you let me know if you can find/read them? Not sarcasm lol I need to know if I set it up right.
Basically they are still 0-1 EXCEPT when purchased for troop infantry. Catch is...the unit needs to begin the game in their dedicated transport (or it can be empty)

Feel free to keep the questions coming - I tried to be as clear as possible but I'm more than happy to answer questions on here for everyone to see so communication is as clear as possible! The only other rule to keep in mind (other than the two brought up already - the CAD and the Transports) is that Vehicle/MC Units are capped at 2 models per unit. This is not a perfect system but I do believe that, given how mostly balanced the last tournament was, this just creeps up a step further into being even more balanced.

Given that this is also at the 1k level, I think it's very reasonable to cap vehicles and squadrons like you have. DE do love their venoms, but since troops can take them outside the 0-1, you're not going to have 15 other units that need transports at this level... it will definitely make you consider list building to a degree, but I think it'll work out alright.
And thanks for the clarification on sub-types of troop infantry! I'm working on those corsairs - let's see what I can get done in the next month!

I think that's a HUGE incentive to bring a lot of troop units - so that you don't have to foot slog everything else. Makes it way more fun than facing minimum troops and a bunch of OP bull.

Definitely. And in the last tourney, Madison really did give benefits to regular troops through the mission structure as well. I personally brought troops the last time, but since I didn't know what to expect, they were minimum squad sizes. Certainly, I'm going to beef up the amount of troops I bring this time. It is definitely a fun overall set up. Fun to take it back to basics!

We have 4 Sign Ups already which is awesome, and technically 50% capacity lol. I still only expect to do 8 because that was the most fun and manageable, but if it fills up quickly I will weigh the possibility of doing 10.
Last time, the top 4 armies only had differences of 2 VP's between them (each). Three of those were only 1 VP apart each (so the painting scores really did come into play) All that means is that the adjustments to balance on my end worked in some way. But really, it only worked because the players/participants all brought fun lists. Everyone was semi-competitive at best. Not pushover but not WAAC. I still recommend this for this tournament because I will find ways to reward it again.
