I don't think I've seen anyone use sentinels before, are they any good? Uhh...In Combat Patrol Scenarios I'd say yes. Small point games can benefit from Scout, or Armored Sentinel variants. Scout Sentinels - 30pts; Scout Move or Outflank & can take the entire gambit of guns, from a heavy Flamer, Plasma Cannons to Lascannons...only problem AV 10/10/10 2HP Armored Sentinels - 40pts; No Scout Move, takes same guns... AV 12/10/10 2HP Their biggest drawback is BS3, and most of their heavy weapons are 2, or 1 shots, except the Heavy 3 Multilaser. And, it's just such a waste to "Prescience" them with a Psyker, if they could do that to a squadron of much more dangerous i.e. Leman Russes. In stock codex I'd only ever take them as the scout version, for outflank, deployment zone infiltration, and popping tanks from the side, Armored Sentinels were/are great for tar-pitting non-elite close combat units. But, since you can break away from non-winnable CC now they lost some of their usability. Another issue is that they are "Fast-Attack", and there are far better "Fast-Attack" options in the AM/IG dex. However, with the Mont'ka book they got their own formation, sort of similar to the Apoc one. "Emperor's Talon Recon Company", the entire formation gains Outflank, doesn't matter if you take Scout, or Armored Sentinels, both get it. One Sentinel is designated "Company Commander" and can give orders to units in the formation, specifically; "split-fire", "shoot & run" & "Precision Shots". Additionally the formation picks one enemy unit in the enemy army, and formation gains "Preferred Enemy" against that unit. Personally, I wouldn't want 9 AV12 walkers with Heavy Flamers, or Plasma cannons in my backfield as a player, once they outflank LOL. I personally always loved the model, even though it's old, it's still beautiful. The non-competitive rules of it though, always stopped me from fielding them. But, the formations might help, I will need to test it out. Just crazy to think that a Tau Piranha is the same pt cost, but outputs more dakka at 8 Str5 Ap5 shots... Either way, I can now bring all my Sents I have in one formation, so you'll see me fielding them often, from now on, at the Dojo
