In case you didn't go onto ChicagoWargamers much, you may not know I've been developing my own sci-fi western themed board game called Broken Contract. Josh R and Josh K have tried it. Will B and I have had great theory discussions about the background. And a bunch of you have helped me confirm some art decisions as well. Anyway, since a bunch of members of this community have had input, I figured I put a post here to keep you abreast of news with the project and allow for more feedback from y'all. Plus, I'll periodically be asking for play testers. Brief synopsis: Background: In a dystopian future governments collapse in favor of mega-corporations as ruling bodies. Interplanetary travel and terraformed planets evolve and allow the mega-corporations to colonize distant worlds for resources and to expand their markets. Most people are contracted employees to the corporations they serve under, and are essentially indentured servants - not free people. However, for some the pull for freedom is too strong and they break their contracts. Breakers are workers who revolt against their servitude, but of course the corporations have hired Security Officers to quell insurrection. The backdrop begins with these two oppositional forces within an iron mine on a partially terraformed world. The situation is simple (for now), you're either a Breaker trying to desert the mines by any means necessary, or you're a Security Officer trying to beat the Breakers down. Game structure/rules: Its being developed to be a high action board game, akin to a slightly more involved Zombicide, though the game rules draw heavily off of my roots in playing games like Necromunda, GorkaMorka, and Blood Bowl where characters fall down, drop grenades at their feet, have weapons break, and get thrown down air-shafts all for shits and giggles. If you want to dive roll under a closing hydraulic door Indiana Jones style, this might be the game for you. If you'll have a good laugh if you accidentally kill yourself mid dive roll as you get crushed by that hydraulic door - this is definitely the game for you. Anyway, the essential background is on my blog: Broken Contract BlogAnd today I wrote a bit about what type of content would work its way into further expansions. Enforcer by Oliver Zavala Tangent I. The Bigger PictureRead on if all this sounds intriguing. Thanks! -Nick

Mike, we can definitely arrange that at or after AdeptiCon. More play testing is always better than less! If you come to AdeptiCon come find me, I'll be there 24/7 for the duration and I'm sure I'll have plenty of down time. Otherwise we'll schedule a time when its all over. I'd be stoked.

Where are you going to be at A-con Nick? I'll be there with Nids, so... lots of downtime.

Sorry if anyone was looking to demo Broken Contract at AdeptiCon, I only ran one the entire weekend. I was either too busy or too exhausted to even petition people to give it a run through. I did do a lot of networking, however, and am more invigorated than ever. I actually spent a lot of time talking to Brian Niro from Aetherium, who happens to be another Wreck-Age/Hyacinth Games defector like myself (they brought me in when he left actually) and he was giving me all the details on where he got his resin models done and started introducing me to his artists and the like. It was pretty exciting for me and I learned a lot of useful "trade info" in a very short amount of time. Since AdeptiCon I sat down and figured out what our art and design requirements are to get the game ready to Kickstart and I sat down with my main artist to discuss those needs. It was a great meeting and I got to see a pretty sweet Breaker concept sketch I hadn't seen previously. Yesterday and into this morning I put together this post asking the question, "Would a Pilot Episode Work For a Game?" Give it a read and feel free to chime in: Tangent II. Would a Pilot Episode Work for a Game? Also, its time to do a big play testing push if anyone is interested. What I ideally need are a couple people willing to read the 24 pages of background and rules and let me watch them try to play the game to see what areas need clarity. Anyone down to do something like this? Let me know and I'll shoot you a link to a PDF of the play test rules. Thanks! -Nick

Dear potential play testers. Thursday night. 7:30ish. Either Dimo's Pizza on Damen or my place. If you're interested say "yay" and follow it with "Dimo's" or "your place" if you have a preference. Thank you!

Yay, and either. Do we still have room for one more, because I'll drag my girlfriend with if so. She playtests things for a living actually so she might have some solid feedback.

1254 N Maplewood Ave #3 7:30PM No alcohol please. I'm a stick in the mud. Root beer and snacks will be provided. All are welcome, including Will's girlfriend. Has anyone who has been provided rules on Facebook looked at them? Just curious, its not a requirement. Word up.

Mike, if it was any other sport I might have to write you off completely. Hockey I can let slide. Everyone else. I don't think anyone beside Mr Kessler have my number so I put a sign on the door. Maybe I'll get street toughs coming up to play.
