Hey all,
First off, thanks for (finally) letting me onto your secret forum (even though you didn't... dick).
Second off, if these subjects are floating around somewhere, feel free to merge/delete/throw me in the dungeon with the rest of the rabble, and I'll continue from the proper location.
Third off, the actual post...
So, now that NDG is officially closing (at least as the store as we know it), what do people plan to do for games? I know a lot of people have tables at homes, there *are* other game stores within relatively easy distance, etc... but if I can't stare at Jeff's ass between turns, I don't even want to show up.
I have also heard some rumblings from a couple of sources (don't I sound connected?) about the store going to a co-op rented gaming space. There are, obviously, some up-sides to this... especially if food and adult drinks can finally be brought in (and 24/7 gaming zone). Realistically, if something like this were to actually happen, then obviously a concerted effort would be more plausible. More people = lower individual cost = more likely to happen. Playing Devil's Advocate, it is worth saying that there is another store just a couple of stops north that is open late and (I think) allows BYOB. So that sort of thing *does* become a factor. Like I said though... I've only heard rumblings, so if anyone has more proper information I'm all ears. I love the idea, but I'm far from rich, so what is feasible for me is relatively limited.
In closing (because I'm classy like that), what's the scuttlebutt on the store (or at least The Space Formerly Known As Store), gaming space in general, and future life plans?
My mans need to kill your mans!!! Help me help you. To help me.

A Co-Op sounds sweet as hell, but I don't know that it is realistic. Unfortunately we all live in or around Chicago, limiting us to some pricey real estate. That aside, I'm totally cool with playing games at my place (It also gives me reason to get around to making terrain). Conveniently I actually even live in a convention center (don't ask), so If we really wanted to do a BIG event, like a tourney or something, I can look into renting the place out for the day.

It seems bizarre there are seemingly so few stores in the city that have Warhammer communities. Has anyone played at Dice Dojo? They seem to sell everything, but it doesn't seem like they have a very active community. It is certainly an option, if we all descended on them.

My concerns with the Dojo are that they already have numerous other gaming groups established(Warmahordes, Pathfinder, Magic, and solid a boardgame community). Just check out their calendar: www.chicagolandgames.com/index.php/calendar/month.calendar/2014/03/20/-. I know on any given night they are running anywhere between 1-4 events, and Fridays are FNM. Anyone the played back at Galactic Force can testify to the madness that is FNM. It's an option, as they do have tables, I just don't think its a very good option as those tables may not be available.

DD's a great place to play and it's huge, but they really only allow wargaming on Thursdays. You can usually sneak in a game on other days, but you kinda have to beg and then they make you feel kinda shitty about it. Or at least I've felt really cringey when I've played there. Not to rag on them though; it's a very cool store and they're honestly just that busy. The huge amount of space that they do have is pretty damn packed every night of the week. Also, yes, it's a big Warhmahordes community, and not much with Warhammer, so there's that as well. Location isn't totally ideal either. Something will get figured out either way, and probably sooner than later. I know we're all eager to stick together and communally figure out a future, and there's honestly not a better place to be. Keep your eyes on this forum, this will be where things develop!

Dood I'm jealous. If the rent is cheap, sign me up for a room.
The store I used to game at back in Indiana actually did a Civil War (they had a few stores, this was the North store vs the South store) tournament every year. It was a lot of fun and involved a trophy... they rented out a hotel conference room for the event (3 game systems at once). Legit.
I've been to the Dojo a couple of times, never for 40k though. I was originally planning to, as that was the only store I knew of that was easy to get to. If we created a community for it, I'm sure there would be space (the place is huge).
The question of the Co-op idea really does boil down to cost. It's ideal in terms of accessibility, and the space is passable. If all the extra stuff went away (leave the mini fridge for my booze, thanks) then we could probably fit in 5 tables with room to walk around... enough for a small tournament even. And we could finally move tables around for Apoc games to actually work the way most people wanted them to. If this is a real option, we need to figure out how much per month, total, the space would cost, and how free we would be with the space. Worth looking in to, in any case.

We started a private thread detailing the future of the community, but it wouldn't let me add you fools for some reason - I think Russel might be figuring out why. There is a lot of detail and information there though, so stay tuned so you can catch up and add your ideas to the mix.

My D is to big for the thread. Restructure your containment protocols.
*Edit, now that I'm at a computer*
Awesome. I'm excited to start talking about options and see where this next step leads us, especially if it means I get to start invading the privacy of your homes.
Which I do anyway.
While you sleep.

Idk if you guys saw, but Nate posted up that the tables at NDG will be up for sale if anyone is looking to get a table for at home. I mean, they did have some pretty sweet terrain (Wishes he wasn't broke atm).

Really? I would love to get my hands on one if those realm of battle tables. However, we were trying to work out a deal with Nate and Marc for the possible co-op to use those items (tables, scenery, etc.). If sounds like we need to make some decisions as a community otherwise this stuff is going away to the highest bidder.

I understand their need to make whatever last profit they can... but if they do end up selling their tables/terrain, that basically shuts down the NCO (Not Co-op) option for us. Unless we go buy/make our own tables, which is just another box on the "to-do" list to make this a reality...
Shrug. I imagine most will be stopping by early this (I guess next) week to check out the sale... I was planning to wait til Tuesday, but I may try to make it in Monday after work... who knows.
