I just wanted to run a test of what some characters in the campaign might look like while Jeff and I are finalizing things. If you guys could nominate some characters following the rules below I'd appreciate it:
I know you don't have the full list of abilities and upgrades, but the majority of USR are available as upgrades. I'd also advise you to try and pick characters at differing points values and sizes otherwise you might not always be able to field them.

I'm assuming for formations/different detachments we are still using the "force organization the model would normally count as" rule:
General: Succubus/Archon/Farseer Colonel: Exarch (either Firedragon or Howling Banshee) Lieutenant: some random guy I guess? Either a Wych/Trueborn or a Windrider (or a wraithknight!)

Probably also want to make clear that Unique Characters cannot be chosen.

Yup! Not only do they get special rules that make them badasses, they also allow you to dictate some of the terms of the game.

Unless they were from 3 different force org slots, and only one of them was an MC, then no Dex you obviously can't ruin everyone's fun with that

As it currently stands the factions are Eldar, Tau, Nid, Imperium, and Chaos. We can write Necrons into the narrative if you plan on playing them regularly, otherwise that is a lot of effort for a faction that's only going to hit the table occasionally. You can certainly play games with them as arandom non faction though, we have rules for that. Ideally though each player will support one faction primarily.

Oh, ok, I didn't realize the campaign was "on wheels" so to speak - I thought if I was going to play a few games as Necrons, or a few games as Nids, that that would be alright?
I feel like we're getting away from the "simple is best" mentality that Nick Baran keeps trying to instill - somehow we always manage to go from "a campaign would be fun" to "ok lets put way too much work and way too much structure into this thing".
Are we trying to make this more like an RPG? With specific written narratives that every faction has to stick to?

It should be very simple, but we are trying to have a bit more structure as opposed to the freeform of the last one. We just need a heads up if you wanna run some Crons in the campaign is all.
Every faction is a given a goal that fits into our narrative that will change as they win or lose their games. Essentially, we have a set up for everyone and something they can do. Individuals will be encouraged to forge personal narratives, but it's not required. You can upgrade and boost characters, but it's not required. If you want to break from your Faction's major narrative and join (or make) another, you probably can, we'll just need to tweak some stuff.
We're just making sure everyone has a solid footing to start. Don't get scared already friend.

Cool, that works - my next Necron buy is going to be the battle force, which will give me the required units to actually start playing (now that my triarch and wraiths are painted!); so they don't need to be a central part of the campaign, but if for example imperials are battling a tyranid invasion...maybe the necrons on that world rise up to help defend it? That sort of thing
