So two of the new rules conundrums involve the Court of the Archon and the Succubus.
RAW, it looks like you can take one as your HQ choice for a DE detachment. If you take an archon, you also have the option to take one as a slotless HQ choice.
My #hottake on this is GW clearly meant to word this like other "command squad" type units, but screwed it up. However it would be fun to take a handful of sslyth in a raider as your HQ choice. Cheap, durable, and with a clear role.
Also, I'm curious about whether y'all think the succubus as modeled in the new codex is legal. Both the agonizer and the glaive replace her ccw when equipped, so how do you get both? On the other hand, we have the model as it's made AND in the official army builder, you can equip both.
I'm siding with the sucubus as modelled and the precedent for command squad units myself. How would youse guys play it?

I'm going to model my succubus as a wave serpent, and then use it as a counts as wave serpent.

The army builder shouldn't be used as precedent, as it has many many clear flaws (for example, only allowing scourges to take Dark Lances or Splinter Cannons, despite being the only unit in the book with access to handheld heat lances and haywire blasters).
RAW, the succubus is illegal - you replace your CCW with either an agoniser, archite glaive, or paired wych weapon. Not sure why they would model the single-pose model with an illegal load out, but whatever, easy enough to convert. Technically it should come with a pistol in one hand, and a knife, with options for the glaive. But that's none of my business...
As for the court...yeah, I'd play it like any of the other command squad options, although an HQ of a single urguhl for points savings and just hiding him for the whole game sounds hilarious. Though, since he's not a character, he doesn't get a warlord trait.

I mean the army list builder that comes with the digital codex. Not the one through like battlescribe or whatever. Is that the one you're talking about, Nick?

No one would pay for an agonizer and a glaive so it's a stupid thing for me to argue about, but I thought I'd ask anyways.

Hmm. I'm intrigued by the idea that the army builder has it as an option.
But in the end, I can't allow the model's gear to be the be-all end-all of "can this model take it"... after all, there was an Archon with a Blaster long before it was a legal option.
As for the court, I'd have to pull out the old codex and compare wording, and all that craziness. But it's hardly something that seems to matter. I mean, sure you can take a budget HQ for all of 10 points, but that gives you basically a high-Ld DE Warrior with a poison blade, that can't hide in a unit, has no warlord trait, etc, as your "please don't kill me" Warlord point.
99% of the time I go with the "What makes sense, with the way the game is meant to be played?" approach, because that's really how it's designed (ie, apply common sense, don't be a D-bag, and have fun). But in this case, I don't even care enough about it to think that much. A Court as your mandatory HQ is kind of quirky, but is it "good"? Shrug. I guess a big group of Sslyth would be hard(ish) to kill for the Warlord point... but the idea is hardly game breaking, "cheesey", or... about anything else other than "interesting".
If someone wanted to try it out, I wouldn't mind. It's not enough of a thing to bother me, one way or the other. I'll still be bringing my Archon anyway.

Yes mike, the one in the digital dex. Its riddled with errors, I downloaded the digital codex for the convenience of the force requisition (and just not having to haul the actual codex around), and its upsetting to say the least. Trueborn and Bloodbrides don't move to the elites section after being upgraded, the scourges don't have access to heat lances/haywire blasters, wyches and bloodbrides don't have access to wych weapons (or at least, not the correct number of them). Lazy coding.

They just updated the DE faq, to address this issue. The succubus now reads "may switch either your ccw OR splinter pistol for an archite glaive". So you can equip the glaive to get rid of the pistol, and get rid of the ccw to equip an agonizer. Then just choose which one you fight with each round - 4+ to wound Ap3, or S4 Ap2.

Phew! Probably gonna buy that model. I absolutely love her capris. She's very 1998. Has anyone made a pop diva themed wyche cult?
