Backlighting? Oh I thought you were doing the same scheme as your dark eldar.
But really though, legit! All these fancy models are making me want to put up some of my refurbished bugs
Edit - yeah the above is definitely what happens when I see Nick's comment above mine and think it's his thread.

Dude!! Those are looking awesome!! And the lighting is much better - how did you feel using the textured paints? I've used them for my knights...I'm not sold on them vs traditional sand + paint I don't think. What do you think?

I'd not recommend to use a brush but like a paddle I used the flat end of a sculpting tool.

These are coming along great, you're doing these models justice. Were you open any suggestions, I would say apply the texture paint all the way to the edge of the base. To me, the base looks either incomplete or damaged. But that's just a very minor complaint.
Did you drill out the gun barrels? Talk about being an over-achiever.

I was gonna do the paint like that but as its a pain to spread and I did a figure where I have gaps in the texture on other spots on the base so it looks more patchy I kinda liked how it looked so I kept with that look. I also just don't know how to base a fire on a finished base unless i drill holes into feet and pin stuff and it never looked good to me. yes i drilled out all the gun barrels for the main barrel and the venting on the sides!

For textured paint I've found a cheap crayola watercolor paint brush for kids art projects is great. They're cheap and generally fairly big so they can pick up the textured paint pretty well and I don't care if I mess them up.
