With Madison having a busy April I'm taking over the tournament organizing for this month (god help us all).
I'm not putting together a fancy graphic with the rules etc like Madison does, but will be posting up details here Monday. It will be in the same vein as the others - focus on infantry and troops vs deathstars, limited LoW options, $10 entry etc.
So while I finalize the details feel free to throw your hat into the ring, since I'm not using Madisons sign up site login stuff either. Aiming for 10-12 players.
Also as I will be having a child like the week after, this will be my last 40k hooray for a long time, so I'm very much looking forward to this.

Details:- Dice Dojo 40k Friendly Tournament April 2017
- Date: April 29th
- Day: Saturday
- Cost: $10
- Time: 11:00AM - 7:00PM
- Points: 1,250
- Army Lists: 1 Combined Arms Detachment (Mandatory)* - Armies without the ability to make a CAD may still play, contact me
- 0-1 Allied Detachment (Optional)
- 0-1 Formation (must be approved by me) ***Caveat: a single IK can be taken as an oathsworn detachment as well, instead of taking a formation****
TOURNAMENT RULES & SPECIFICS:- 0-1 Super Heavies or Gargantuan Creatures* - If you have any of the above, your opponent always chooses who takes the First Turn and chooses who Deploys First. No Rolls/Seize
- YES Forgeworld Allowed
- No Death From The Skies
- Only BB or AoC Allies
- 0-1 Fortifications*- If you have a Fortification, your opponent always chooses Table Sides and who Deploys First. Roll to sieze as usual.
- 4 Player Minimum - 12 Player Maximum
- Games are Capped at 2 Hours or 5 Turns, whichever comes first
- Players will email me their lists so I can verify the lists are in the spirit of the game
IMPORTANT NOTES:- Type: Infantry in the CAD are the only units that score static objectives
- Psychic Powers will be normal, but rolled at the beginning of the Tournament
- All Psychic Powers kept for the duration of the Tournament
- Missions Packets will be Printed and handed out to each Player at the beginning of the Tournament (taking some pointers from the Adepticon 40k Friendly!)
Taking this tournament to a slightly higher points level than in the past - closer to the 1500 points that the game is playtested at, so its a bit more balanced. Some of the armies that can be brought at 1000 points just can't be dealt with by other armies at the same points value, so we're ramping it up ever so slightly. The focus of this tournament is on FUN and FRIENDLY play! We have seen a lot of new faces lately, and this is an opportunity for OG players and newbies alike to get together for a day of laughs, dice, and dick jokes. And beers probably. If you were planning on bringing your jetbike army, or your knight army, or super friends, this isn't for you. There will also be some surprises throughout the day to keep things light and fun as well! In lieu of Madisons super fancy payment site, once I have confirmed that you are on the list, you can paypal me at powellnf AT muohio DOT edu or venmo me at nick-powell-7 the $10 to secure your spot. Prizes:- Best General
- Best Painted
- Best Sportsman

So its CAD and Allied detachment only, or are Formations allowed after purchasing the CAD?

So its CAD and Allied detachment only, or are Formations allowed after purchasing the CAD? I removed the formation allowance, since it tends to allow for easier cheese - I forget, do GSC need the formations to function? Or can they run a CAD? Might make exceptions for specific armies that need them to function.

To be completely honest, GSC can't really work in a CAD in my opinion. Don't change something on account of me though, I'm happy to sit one out if the format doesn't fit the army. I understand the limitations completely, as its intended to make the playing field for 40k a little more balanced and fun. 7th edition is a mess, and its hard to balance. I'd hate to play with different rules as it just doesn't seem fair.
If your curious about my opinion on the CAD problems for GSC, its all because of the way cult ambush works. You need to have Infiltrate in order to deploy via ambush on turn 1, and only Genestealers (an Elites choice in GSC) begin with Infiltrate stock. Every other units needs be taken in either the Subterranean Uprising Formation, or the Cult Insurrection Detachment in order to get Infiltrate. Without formations your forced to either deploy on turn 1 and risk getting blown off the table or hold your forces in reserves for an ambush on turn 2. Problem with reserves is you might not arrive on time, and GSC don't have to many "anchor" options to hold down the table for 1-2 turns until reinforcements arrive.
TLDR I'm a whiny Nid player now, but don't change the rules for me.

Seems fluffy and fun, and its not like GSC/Nids is some crazy powerhouse army that cleans tables. Do you think that would be better balanced/fair?

Hey Nick, If I wanted to play Harlequins for the lols (if I can get them painted this month), can I run a Masque detachment since they don't have a CAD?

Nick if you really feel like playing God and trying to balance armies, you could do what Madison did for the October tourney. He had faction-based warlord traits for each army to help with balance. For instance, marine troops have a 5++ or GSC troops have infiltrate or sisters troops reroll ones to hit.

Yes you can, they and skitarri are the exceptions to the CAD rule. However you are also unable to take LoW or formations unless the Masque allows it (I forget if they can or not).
