So I came across s small place over near Harlem and Foster on the NW side and I've been discussing starting up an Age of Sigmar Escalation League over there sometime. Figured I'd post a heads up over here in case anyone was interested in jumping in on it when it gets going.

I have a hard time understanding how this point system works - I have the generals handbook and the warscrolls for sylvaneth in the app, but army construction is confusing me. So I get to take my units (in multiples of 5 or 10, paying that points cost for each multiple), and conform to battle line/leader/behemoth etc.
Then I have to pay for the warscrolls I take right? So if I want to take a Houshold Batallion as an example, I pay some points cost. Where are those points costs listed?
And then relics - I get 1 per batallion I take, right? Or only 1 model can take them per batallion? I have seen some 2000 point lists where a single leader has like 2 relics, so how does that work?

TL;DR: halp You pay for units in "blocks" of the unit size. Then after purchasing all of the models, you pay for battalions. Battalion costs are listed in the General's Handbook, and sometimes in your battle tome if its a new one. Some battalions are Narrative Only and don't have a points cost, meaning they aren't valid for match play. You get 1 relic base, and an additional relic per battalion you take. As far as I know there are no restrictions on who you can give the relics, beyond the target needing to be a Hero. |

So its a social club, not a store/physical location? Sorry, haven't been back to the forum in a few days, please excuse my late reply.
It's a social club that runs a very tiny store that is open to the public. They tend to focus on products that the club uses a lot, like Magic cards and 40k products, but the guy who runs it, Eddie, has been more than helpful in ordering some Sigmar stuff for me since he's so close to my place. Super nice people.

As for Allegiance command abilities and relics. the above have pretty much covered it. The only thing to add is that unique, named units are not allowed to carry relics or use allegiance special abilities. I think Sylvaneth only have Alarielle and Drycha something as named uniques.

Yeah, just a couple blocks down from the blue line stop.
It looks like the league is going to have it's first meet & greet next Saturday afternoon so people can meet up, talk about Sigmar and how stuff works. Also to go over the escalation writeup to see if anyone have any suggestions to make things work even better and more fun for everyone over the course of it all before we start organizing actual play events. |

I'm getting more and more interested in AoS. At this point, it's pretty inevitable - I'm just waiting for the right time and armies.
I have a question regarding the factions and alliances - now even moreso after looking at the google doc that russell posted:
Why are some factions fully united in terms of name/unit and some are majorly broken up? And I'm not talking about the Grand Alliance system.
For example, on the GW Web-Store and the Google Doc, "Stormcast Eternals" and "Seraphon" are all listed together, with like 40-60 items in each. They are one huge army.
By contrast, the High Elves are broken into "Order Draconis", "Swiftclaw Agents," "Phoenix Duders", "Shadow Warriors with Chariots for some reason", "White Lions ONLY NO ONE ELSE" etc
Now, I did dabble in WHFB back in the day and the High Elves were severely divided by their own political bullshit, so this actually makes some kind of sense.
Same with the Skaven and their Clans, that was always a thing so it makes sense to me.
It looks like the Dwarves are going down the same route - the Fyreslayers, the new Steampunkers, the kind of old school mountain aesthetic is still there.
To sum up my question, if one wanted to play Skaven or High Elves, or those Dwarves, would they be able to mix these little sub-factions without penalty? On the flipside, do the larger armies like Stormcast and Seraphon even have the option to split into smaller ones like the former examples?

Stormcasts or example have like 3-4 major braches available for player already (Vanilla, Calvary, Scouts, ect). Allegiances are in a weird place atm, some armies have fully viable "sub-factions" like the fyreslayer duardin and the new pirates, while other have to play mostly as a unified force (like seraphon). As to whether all skink is viable, Its all depends on what command abilities you have in the Seraphon army. Many command abilities effect a specific allegiance, so if their are any Skink only ones you could likely do a skink army. |
