I'm seriously thinking about picking up the AoS general handbook and starting a Death Grand Alliance army, if I like what I see. I've always thought that AoS was a crying shame to have such impressive models without a playable ruleset. If that is about to change than I don't think I'll be able to resist.

Early leaks of the Generals Handbook look promising; the points system seems to be in line with what Warhammer Fantasy used to have, and the army building rules are a subtle echo of that ruleset as well (with requirements for "battleline" units, limits on monsters/war machines/specialist units, minimum requirements and limits on heroes/lords, etc).
The game still plays a little more loosely thanks to the standardized To Hit/To Wound profiles on every model, but at least the games are going to be more balanced and not just "bring as many models you want, or whatever, who cares" and there will be some strategy to list building and adding synergy, now that you have a limit on the specialist units and a minimum core. No more spamming the best units in an army, now you have to strike a balance.

I'm in the same boat Craig. I might nab some Flesh-Eater Courts to have giant zombie bats stomping around, we'll see how the general's handbook looks though.

The handbook is only $25. I'm curious about it and I'll give AoS another try Considering the rules for the armies are free as well that is super cheap for the handbook. If someone picks up a copy I'd love to hear more about the new ruleset.
