Thanks for the game Dave! We'll have to find a weekend that we can get a game in, so we can actually get more than 2 turns in 3 hours haha but it was a lot of fun, good experiment with the Death from the Skies rules. How was it? Death from the skies. Did it seem clunky, added to much time to the game, and was it fun to use?

I like the in-game portion of it a lot - pursuit and agility affecting how you can move your flyer, using the attack formations for various bonuses, etc. And the different flyer roles are great, because it really gives each type a specific focus rather than just treating all flyers the same.
But the dogfight phase is...just very clunky. I imagine that if you play it a few times it becomes faster, but it is still just so, so random. There's no skill to it what so ever - its literally just "both players play rock paper scissors" essentially, and then stuff happens.
The first dogfight, Dave was the attacker vs my bomber - but I won the rock paper scissors chart, so I was able to force his flyer to turn 90 degrees and prevent it from shooting me. Second dogfight, I was the attacker, and Dave won and forced me not to shoot.
The fact that I was a bomber in the first one, and he was a a fighter, had no bearing. The fact that I was a fighter, and much more agile/faster than his stormraven the second time, also had no bearing - it is 100% a crap shoot. Though I did pull a HP off his fighter with my bomber by some strange miracle.
I'm all in for using the new in-game stuff, but from now on I think I'm going to be anti-dogfight; it just made the game longer too, we only got 2 turns in in 3 hours!

Hey Nick, same to you. Had a lot of fun, especially the part where my Devs took out your Wraithknight in one try. That was a really fun part! But seriously, it was fun trying out the new flier rules. (Speaking of which, I sent you a separate message, there was at least one part I found out that I did wrong. I'm sure I'll find others as I reread the rules.) Anyway, yah, hit me up whenever you want to play on a weekend. Honestly, since I travel for work, I'd much rather play on the weekends. More time to work with and not a school night! But definitely, let's get a game again soon. Especially I'd like to play your bugs!

The in game stuff is a lot of fun, especially for someone like me who really likes fliers from a "coolness" stand point. I think the new rules with the new stats, the new break turn, the new combat roles and especially the Attack Patterns really make fliers even more fun. Especially the Attack Patterns, I can see myself taking 3 fliers or 4 fliers from now on in order to take advantage of the bonuses the patterns give like tank hunter or, my favorite, ignores cover. And, in the case of Space Marines, basically I now have access to a unit of fliers for less than 300 pts that can potentially do some major damage. I like it a lot. but, as Nick said the Dogfight rules are too clunky and arbitrary for my tastes. I think I like the idea behind the rules, meaning I like where they're going with it, but there'd have to be a better way to implement it. Like he outlined, having my new Stormhawk vs his Voidraven bomber and somehow, his voidraven got behind my SH and got a shot off that took off a hull point. And before you say it, no, it had nothing to do with his being a Dark Eldar which is admittedly a very agile flier. It was really just the luck of the paper rock scissors and maybe one dice roll. So, I want to play the Dogfight phase some more, because I could see how it could be sped up with 2 players who know it forward and backward. But, in the long term, I think it will be something that most people will just mutually agree to skip because it's just too clunky and arbitrary.

What was all that "I'm new, I don't know how to play" talk?? CHEAT lol I won't be so soft next time Dave!

If I knew you had grav/imperial space marine in a pod with a libby, I wouldn't have deployed my WK out in the middle of nowhere for you to come get him. Would have castled up in the right hand corner, opposite your razorback, and spreading out my infantry and venoms to prevent you from dropping close enough to get after the WK. Also I won't be bringing flyers next time, meaning a much more optimal use of ~640 points. Looking forward to the next match

Looking forward to the next match Well, to be honest, the Libby didn't do anything in that unit other than die and give you a Victory Point since he was my general. I had him in there to give Prescience, which I didn't need on that first turn with my Devastator Doctrine which did that work for me. The other guys in the unit, however, yah, they did a good job. Anyway, good to know how you'll be deploying next time and that you wont bring any fliers. Appreciate the heads up! #airsuperiority
